best trigger for AR varmint rifle

For general hunting purposes, a nice two stage trigger that requires about three pounds is ideal, especially if you are shooting with gloves...With the extra bulk in the trigger guard, you don't want accidental discharges...

Very light triggers are great for bench type shooting (including Prairie Dogs), but not really very safe for the average shooter/hunter under field conditions...There is a reason that "Military" type competitions are restricted to 4.5 pounds...
 
Seeing as I spent $190 for a Timney, there is not much I'm gonna say bad of it.
I can honestly say I like it though, regardless.....
How come I'm reading this not on the AR thread???

I use the Geissele SSA-E which has a pull weight of about 3.5 lbs. There is 2.3 lbs. on the 1st stage and 1.2 lbs. on the 2nd stage. It works well with Thinsulate gloves for me.
 
I have the Geissele SSA (Not the -E) It is one of the best triggers around, let alone on an AR. Truly great triggers. Have no experience with other manufacturers on AR other than the stock mil-spec.
 
I have a 3lb Timney, Giessele SSA-E, and just bought a Geissele Hi-Speed National Match.

I honestly like them all and they are all far better than the stock trigger. I thought the SSA-E was really nice until I bought the Match trigger. The SSA-E and Timney both have a tiny bit of creep (I mean very little, but I can notice it), the Match trigger has zero.

I'm a fan of light trigger pulls, I really don't like anything over 4lbs. The reason I grabbed the Match trigger was to replace the Timney (for my Grendel build that I'm waiting on a barrel for) and I wanted as low as possible pull on it.

Something tells me I might be upgrading my SSA-E to a DMR in the future, but for now that is what sits in my AR.
 
Great info , I just got a ar a few months ago but it was on order quite a while before stuff hit the fan , and been thinking about a new trigger , leaning towards a Timmey , but heard about a J and P but don't know much about them
 
JPs are good triggers...For a modest fee, they will even install and adjust it for you...Turn around is reasonably fast...
 
I am happy with the 3 lb Timney I put in my Rem R-15.
It does have the tiniest hint of creep but not enough to bug me.
And I'm pretty fussy with my triggers.
 
Bill Springfield does an excellent job on triggers and will rework them to as low as 2 3/4#, I really like the one he did for me. I also have a Rock River 2 stage which isn't bad but I prefer the single stage.
