Better quality cleaning rod?

Cleaned 3 rifles tonight - broke 2 rods, one brass, one nylon. can someone help me find a decent rod under $30 please?

first one was 3 piece brass and I broke it at the threads trying to get the patch over the nipple in the jag (stupid and my fault). Second one I was working a patch of butch's back and forth in my AR and I think the patch got stuck on the gas vent. the Alm. threaded end pulled (stripped) right out when I tried to pull it back to the breach. Again, probably stupid and my fault, but I think there was a cheap factor working against me. I'm really not usually this inept.

+1

I have picked up Tipton Carbon Fiber rods for my handgun and my rifles to replace my other metal type rods. The Dewey coated rods lost all the coating and left exposed metal to possibly mess with things. They flex a lot but have found using my arm to guide it until it starts down the bore and I haven't broke one yet.

I have a couple of the Tipton Carbon Fiber one piece and three Pro-Shot one piece stainless rods. I like them both, but I think I favor the Pro-Shot stainless because the handles are smaller and don't hang up on the stock as much as the Tipton.

+1 Love mine!

Tipton and Dewey are great and right around $30. Don't get hung up on the cost though. Buy good equipment the first time. One $30 or even $40 rod that lasts is better than three $12 ones that break under normal use.

I like the Carbon Fiber rods, I have 3 of them right down to 17cal. I dont have problems breaking them like those meat hooked, bulldog, thick necked gunther types that pound away on them with the reviews at midways site.

I've been using Dewey rods for a number of years. But, they have one glaring fault; sharp edges in the receiver peel off the rod's coating. So, I've been switching over to Tipton rods. I do have one Bore-Tech rod and like the handle better than any of them. But, the carbon fiber Tipton rods do not peel, and they get then job done, so that's the route Im heading.

I have 4 Tipton rods and can say that I am more satisfied with them than any rod I have used previously. Would recommend highly as others have already posted.

Yeah, you need a one-piece rod. I haven't used anything else since I discovered them.
I quit using brushes once I found Wipe-Out foam does a better job without the risk of dinging up the crown, I just use the rod to push patches now. I could get along fine with a piece of fishing line, actually.

I'm just sayin.

i saw these on tv the other day. look kinda cool. anyone ever used one?

I dont see much of anything in that kit I would use. I like a solid one piece cleaning rod. That Tactical Weapons Cleaning System set up is more for the mall ninja's gear......not mine.

I'am with Evil with the use of Wipe-out, a quality rod, appropriate sized jag and patchs is all I need.

I have the Gunslick version of that kit. It works better than I thought it would and you dont have to worry about where to store it. I keep mine in my ammo dry box now.
