Better varmint rifle?for a new varmint rifle for a while now

how about the cz .204 varmint if you haven't looked at that yet? The set trigger is sweet! I had the .223 I just sold it the other day and it was a great shooter. Only reason is i'm going to a bigger gun .243 and I dont' shoot PD's or paper.

I own a VSSF II but I have never shot a Kimber so I can not compare the two. I will tell you however that I am extremely please with my VSSF II it flat out shoots.

Compete how?
For accuracy? Probably so
F&F...not even close but it doesn't compare in price either.

GunTests is a joke. I used to subscribe to it long ago, until I figured that out. Anyway, basing your decision on 1 rifle shooting .169" better than another, with factory ammo, in a random magazine article, is just silly. JMO. Carry on.....

Well considering that it seems like nobody has experience with the rifles in question. I have to take any kind of comparison I can get. I still am split between the Remington and Savage. I really wish there was a gun shop here that had both rifles so I could get the feel of both of them and make a good decision but I do not have those luxuries. Which ever one I choose will have to be ordered.

Maybe I will have to make a run up to SLC and see what I can find. 2muchgun Which would you choose? I bet your a Remington fan. Am I right?

Does anyone know how much a Remington trigger can be adjusted? I like to get it pretty low on my varmint rifles. I prefer less than a pound.

I like Remingtons, but have had some good shooting Savages, as well. You need to understand, that not much of what I buy stays "as is" anymore. You need to get what YOU like.

The right guy can get a Remmy trigger down to 2lbs and less, but it sometimes takes a little honing of the sear and/or respringing it. Very easy to do. I do not care for the Savage accutrigger at all. You'll not get either to go under a lb........

I know that on the savage 12 BTCSS, the trigger goes to 6 oz. I have heard that Remmy has a smoother trigger than the savage does though.

If it does, I did not know that. I have a bunch of tuned 700 triggers and they break like glass.

Do yourself a favor, and check out the guns in person before you buy. You will be happy you did......

I have Sharp Shooter Supply triggers, in three of the Savage rifles I own, which break at 10-12oz and I love them. I'd take a quality aftermarket trigger over a standard accutrigger any day. That being said, I've had the opportunity to handle an Savage F-class model 12 with the Target Accutrigger and I can say that it is very impressive. I can almost believe the 6oz claim and even if it didn't make it down quite that low it's still substancially better than the hunting accutriggers.

If there is a BAD shooting .204 out there I personally haven't heard of it.

I own CZ527 and Savage Predator Hunter in .204 - set trigger on the CZ and AccuTrigger on the Savage. Fully satisfied with both rifles though had an initial hiccup with the Savage blind mag feeding 40 gr Berger HPBT.

Enjoy whatever you get.

If you can't find the VSSF II at the guns shop ask them if they have the Sendero II. They are pretty much the same rifle except the VSSF II is in short action varmit calibers while the Sendero is in long action magnum calibers. Both have the same H S stock and the same trigger.

I have two accutriggers and one sharp shooter supply trigger. I much prefer the sharp shooter supply trigger to the accutrigger. There was a time when all I wanted was accutrigger, but.........the more I shoot different rifles the more I understand about weight, creep, overtravel. Anywhooo.....Accutrigger is alright but there is much better. Yes the drive is worth it to check out all types of different rifles. Who knows you might end up with something other than a savage or remington.

I have the Remington 700 SPS Varmint in 223rem. Only thing I have done to it so far is the factory X-mark trigger adjusted down to 2Ibs. with a crisp trigger pull and braks like glass. Very accurate with factory 50gr. and 55gr. ammo. 1/2" groups with the tupperware stock. Will eventually change stock out with a Bell & Calson Medalist stock. Just starting to reload for it.
