BFR Revolvers?

I am contemplating a BFR revolver because I was not happy with my last few Rugers. I have no experience with BFRs. Could anyone here share their experiences with these revolvers? I am interested in quality, durability, and of course accuracy.

Thanks.
Matt

Have you thought about Smith & Wesson? I'm not sure I'd go with an oddball BFR over S&W unless it was one of their cool 30-30 Win models or something.

What are you looking for in a revolver?

If you want a 44Mag or a 454 or something "normal" like that, you are probably better served with the lighter guns made by others. The BFR is strong and heavy. Where it shines is in the ability to do things other makers can't do.

I have a BFR in 45-70 with the shorter (7.5") barrel. I'm not sure why anyone would go 10", the thing would be very front-heavy. The gun can be loaded baby, fun, nuclear, and shatter-your-wrist without reaching max loads. I love the gun. I like open sights on revolvers, and can shoot nice 50 yard groups offhand and 100 yard groups off bags with the gun (6 inch range).

The power is up there. I shot a deer last year with my rifle which I decided needed a quick second, I pulled the BFR as it was in range and hit it in the shoulder. Twice. The 300gr JHPs were not up to the velocity at 40 yards, the penetration was not satisfactory. I'm going to the 325gr FTX next year.

If you're after quality, you can't go wrong with a BFR. I own Smiths and would put the BFR quality above any of them. But if I was going to carry a 44Mag for hunting, I'd get a 629.

I am wanting a single action .44 mag for shooting cast lead. I have bought a 3 Ruger Super Blackhawks to accomplish this. All 3 of those SBHs were defective. 1 SBH barrel split on the first shot. 1 shot so high it would not sight in. 1 had amazingly poor accuracy. I love my Super Redhawk, my S&W 629, and my .44 mag Contender, but I want one dedicated to cast lead.
