Bi-pod for Studless Stock?

I have a Ruger M77 Mark II with the old(er) ultralight stock. This stock was made without swivel studs. Can I just drill and install a stud that will be strong enough for a bi-pod? I don't really want to attach a bi-pod directly to the barrel. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Try a pair of shooting sticks. You can do a search here on the forum to find instructions or go to Varmit Al's site and get a set of intructions on how to make a set. They are simple and inexpensive to built and both lighter and easier to use than most metal bipods.

As far as installing swivels on your Ruger it's not hard and the swivel kits are inexpensive. I've just never liked the weight that those bipods put on such a small screw in the wood of a forarm and prefer the shooting sticks.

Thanks for the input, fellas. I will likely stick with the stix for a while. I do like the fact that I can carry this one all day and not get tired.

Here's a sitdown bipod I've been using for a couple of years. It does attach to the sling swivel stud, but does not place any weight on the stud as the nylon ball just snaps into the bipod.

These are made by an outfit in Boise ID., but for the life of me I can't remember the name of them.

Bob,

I like that bipod....does it allow you to turn the gun at 90 degree angles? For example, if an animal is in front of you but moving left to right, are you able to swivel the gun on that ball mounting system?

thx,
Chris
