BICYCLE HUNTING.....

Picked this one up from my brother and the first upgrade will be a more comfortable seat:

your right about a different seat... then you'll need a handle bar rifle rack... and a rack on the back to carry your stuff... looks good so far....

I like bikes... especially when hauling out a boned out buck, and a black coyote... and a treestand... fanny pack and shooting stixs.... and a Rem 700 243 rifle.... about a mile down the dirt road.

I use my bike all the time. Good rack on the handlebar, that I can set for both my rifle or longbow. This one is made by Specialized and is called the Expedition. You sit up straighter which is more comfortable for me and I can wear my backpack, leaving my rack w/saddlebags clear for other things. With more roads being gated it gives me lots of access that the roadhunters just drive on past. Over the years I have "rolled" up on deer and elk that just stood there watching like I was a car. Its fun, quiet and good for me!

Oooohh, brother, that there is funny.... I can relate very well.

We have used the bikes for deer, hogs and turkeys. Game/meat goes in the back pack for the ride out. Prefer to carry the bows on the pack vs the handle bars because of the bouncing/vibration affect. I did have a homemade bicycle trailer that worked pretty good, but someone stole it. I was about 1 1/2 miles in behind a locked gate when that happened.

"Fat Bikes" like the Pugsly are really made for mud, snow, or sand, but they have their advantages in the field. They have a lot more rolling momentum and a lot more wheel inertia, which are good and bad, respectively, they sink a lot less (good), but tend to be heavy (bad).

I just picked up a Specialized Fatboy, just to say I have it. A front squish 29'er with an alloy frame and disk brakes would be a better option for a hunting bike than a Fat Bike though. I have a Specialized StumpJumper 29'er alloy that is a lot nicer riding and easier pedaling through hills and rough country than my Fatboy. The Fat Bike is nicer for riding across dew-mud crop ground that's not quite frozen, as it wouldn't dig in as much - BUT it does pick up a lot more weight in mud, which makes it harder pedaling.

I've used a bike for almost 20yrs while hunting. I've only used them sporadically in the last 5-8yrs, simply because my wife is hunting with me now, and we place most of our sets/stands on a shorter walk, only a half mile to 3/4mile from the truck.

I like to use my mountain bike to ride in to prairie dog hunt. It is great to get back into public land this way when no motorized vehicles are allowed. When riding In with a full fanny pack of 223 rounds I often wonder if any one saw me would they think I was out of my mind????
