I am fairly new to this forum, and I was wandering if anyone likes to shoot the really big stuff? I enjoy shooting big bores alot and thought there might be other guys out there like me. I have collected guns for along time . Here is some of what I play with, 700 nitro. 585 wells magnum, 14.5 mm by J. D. Jones,50cal Barret, 500 nitro,460 weatherby, and 450 dakota. I have a 600 overkill and a 510 kodiak express comming over the next 2 months. They have been ordered for almost a year.I always get excited when something new is coming in. What does everyone else enjoy shooting?

Welcome to the board as well Ken!!
Dang, you have a mighty interesting collection!!

Hey Nut!!! Glad to see you over here! Can't wait to try out that great call I have!

Not for me!
I know my limits. The 375 H&H is it. Although the 50BMG with a good muzzle break and at least an 18 pound rifle is not too bad with plugs and muffs.

And I had my fill firing six 12 ga. slugs from an 18" 1300 after having fired 25 180 grain .30-06 loads and 30+ .243 rounds yesterday. My shoulder is making me regret that. I'm beginning to notice my durability is inversely related to my age.

Welcome to the board bigdoggy. I like big bores, but a 700 Nitro? At $50-100 a pop that's some expensive fun.

The most powerful I've owned was a .375 H&H, but I've played with larger including half a dozen shots out of a Holland and Holland 600 Nitro Express double gun. That was a kick figuratively and literally. At the time I didn't know how much the ammo (or the rifle) cost, or I probably would have declined the offer to shoot it, but it was fun.

I like to shoot a lot when I go shooting. I went out shooting with my nephew all day yesterday and shot 300+ rounds from .223 to 7mm Mag. I couldn't afford to do that with the cost of any of the ammo you shoot, even assuming my shoulder could take it.

The only problem I see with shooting PD with a 50 cal. would be finding enough parts to confirm a kill. Guy across the swamp from me has a full auto 50 cal., love to sit outside and hear that great tap, tap, tap, just close my eyes and remember.

That's some big stuff your shooting there. I have been jonesing for a .375 H&H for awhile but after taking 10 shots from the old mans 9.62 the other day I may have cooled a little. I'll be back in the market shortly though.

nmloen,

I like shooting the smaller stuff too. Nothing like shooting all afternoon with a 223 or a 17hmr. I can even kill an afternoon shooting a 22 hand gun, but the adrenoline goes up for me when I shoot the bigger stuff.

I have only had the 700 since March. I have had it out twice, put 4 rounds through it the first time and 18 rounds the second time. My shoulder was sore the next day. I traded for the 700 and some ammo or I would not be able to afford it either. Got a good deal on the ammo, about 30.00 /round, still expensive though.

Simply awesome collection but what is a .600 Overkill and a .510 Kodiak Express? Never heard of either.

Makes my biggest gun, a .458 Win Mag seem wimpy even if it isn't. Don

The 600 OK is basically a 600 NE designed for bolt actions by removing the rim and making it a belted magnum. Holland & Holland no longer make 600NE ammo or guns. The 600NE was considered to be "overkill" even by professional elephant hunters, and was used as an "emergency gun". One of the guys on http://www.accuratereloading.com/index.html , which is heavily geared toward African hunting, had the screen name "overkill" and supposedly the 600 OK is named after him.

The .510 Kodiak is a "reinvention/modernization" of the 50-110 with higher pressures. It's usually chambered in light weight lever action guide guns (ouch), often an extensively modified Marlin 336.

Don D.

The 510 kodiak express is a heavily modified Marlin lever action. Mine started out as a 45-70 and is being done by McPhearson. It is a 50 alaskan except it is 23/100ths longer. It takes at least a small modification on almost every part to get it to feed properly. I can get 450 grain bullets out to 2350 ft/sec for around 5500 ft/lbs. Actually an 1886 can be made into a modified 50-110 which can be loaded a smidge hotter with 525 grain bullets, but I already had the 510 K.E. being made. My 510 has a 22" bl and a matte silver robar finish. I just found out that it won't be completed till October instead of the original July completion date. I hope it is worth the weight!

Unfortunately heaviest hitter I've fired is a .375 a fella at the range had. My buddy was a little puddin' and was scared to shoot it, I said hell ya i'll shoot it. Honestly didnt kick that bad at all. Got a picture of a .700 or 600? I didnt know anything that friggen big existed.

the biggest one ive fired was a 458 lott. but the one i thought kicked the hardest was a .338 unltra. it was a really light gun and it got me good

OK, I know absolutely nothing about these big bore calibers. They just don't go with where I live and what I do. But at the mention of these doubles my mind starts to wander to Sunday morning TV and that hot little blonde snack Cindy Garrison running through the brush and turning loose a round or 2 out of that nitro express she drags around. Simply amazing.....
I'd like to go on safari with her.....(censored)
