BIG BORE RIFLES

700 Nitro Express max charge as listed on accuratereloading.com, they had hang fires in all the loads they tried, until they used 2 grains of Alliant Bullseye to help ignite the powder charge.

2gr Alliant Bullseye + 250gr VVN 160, Velocity 2442, Energy 13240, Woodleigh 1000gr DKT SP bullet

cb375hh,broknarow,

On the 14.5 mm, 250 grains of 5010, is not maximum, but will give plenty of kick. On the 700 nitro, in a searcy double, mine is regulated for 160 grains of R15. This gives 2000ft./sec with a 1000 grain bullet. I would say you could push it to 2200ft./sec and probably still be safe in a searcy double. To get velocity up to 2350 or 2450 ft./sec you would need a bolt gun to handle the pressure. I would NOT push my double to those velocities and still feel safe. I have only been out shooting my 700 twice for a total of 22 rounds, but I have yet to have a hangfire with the 160 grn. R15 load. I got the 700 at the end of Feb 06 and have not a many chances to go out and shoot it yet. I lost my 14 year old son on March 28 in an accident and have not done alot of shooting since then. Still trying to deal with that.
