Big, like big bore or big like heavy?

Here's my 243 Remington VLS, it comes in at over 11 pounds with scope and sling.

But my Rem 8mm mag is the biggest I shoot. Dandy deer and elk rifle for open country or those across canyon shots.

22-250 Ackley Improved, 30" Hart barrel, 24X Unertl 2" Target Scope, Jewell trigger, Laminated Rosewood stock. Tips the scales just a tad over 37 pounds. Has to be hauled around in the biggest SKB double gun case, because it will not fit in anything else. Priceless

I highest power I own is a .300WSM, but it is also probably the lightest. As for the heaviest I have, I would have to say its my ether my Enfield/Parker Hale .303 or my DBL 12 ga.

I bought a custom 7mm RUM this year and love it. I'm having a twin to it built in .338 RUM and may add a big brother in .375 RUM. I am planning a trip to Africa in about 18 months and Alaska for big bears the year after. I've found a pattern that I just love for these rifles and I'm building them all alike. Remington 700 actions, Lilja barrels, High Tech ultra light stocks, Gentry Breaks. Here is the 7mm RUM, pics to the big brothers soon.

Remington SPS Varminter in .308 with an HS precision stock, Harris bipod, Pheonix Tac. pod claws, Nikon 4.5-14x40 scope. It tips the scales right at 11 lbs.

I don't know if it qualifies as a "BIG" rifle though, since it's chambered in 17Rem. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

They are nice aren't they; very repeatable. I picked up an old 8X and it sits on my favorite deer rifle, a Pre-64 Win. in 30-06. The 1/3 MOA clicks take a bit of getting used to, however.

They are nice aren't they; very repeatable. I picked up an old 8X and it sits on my favorite deer rifle, a Pre-64 Win. in 30-06. The 1/3 MOA clicks take a bit of getting used to, however.

hm,,,,,,,,,,,,You are a man of good taste. Those old U.S. made Redfields are still hard to beat.
I had to send mine to that outfit in Florida (can't think of their name right now) for a tune-up and Nitrogen refill a couple of years ago. Cost $70.00 and I figure I'm good for another 25 years or more.
That 700 in my pic is my best Rifle and wears my most Low-Tech scope. I have some Lupolds and a Zeiss that are no clearer.... They do beat it out in low light, but not by much. I rarely shoot rodents at night anyway....

The action is a Nesika K, 1.350" OD, right bolt left port with a soft ejector. The stock is a McMillan, the trigger is a Jewell, the scope is a Nightforce 8-32X I have shot some 5 inch 10 shot groups with it at 1000 yards

Dan, how in the world do you cope with mirage @ long range w/scope. I tried shooting my Mod. 70 target 30-06 topped with a 20X Unertl 2" @ 600 yds and the target looked like a bowl of jello sitting on a jitterbug! I shot much better scores w/same rifle using aperature iron sights than w/the scope. Might have had better luck @ lower power but my scope was fixed power.

Edit to add my "heavy rifle". This is a 1903 Springfield with a Bishop stock I made for practic rifle; duplicates the feel of my Mod. 70 target rifle; weighs 14# w/iron sights. Use for NRA cross the course shooting.

Mirage is something that takes years and a few good books on it, to come to terms with. Most long range matches are started very early in the morning to minimize the mirage. In the mean time I just pray the wind is blowing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
