BIG Predator Live Trap Finally Built (Pictures)

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif....doh /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif it's beginning to not be funny.
You know if he came back and gave us a story about being caught in that thing himself for weeks before getting discovered and released, we'd have to nominate the story for this months HOM.

Wow guys, I didn't think this topic was still going Ahahahahaha. Unfortunately, no coyotes or foxes in my trap. It has been working on some pesty vermin but I've been testing a few different things for a different trigger. I've been laying off bait for coyotes and foxes because foxes will be dropping their pups soon. Sorry for taking so long for a response River Runner.

Here's the real kicker,

To be honest when I was reseting the trigger string one day, I had to crawl inside and re-tie it off to the plate. What I didnt realize was how heavy that dang door was when in a crouched down position /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif Sure enough the way my luck is, the stick that I had proped the door up with wasn't strong enough. As I'm in there that thing comes slamming down and just smokes me on the rear-end but thankfully didn't catch the locks on the bottom /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif. If by chance it did, I would be in there for at least 8 hours until my dad came home from the afternoon shift. Boy was I lucky on that one. I could just picture the local headlines. "Trapper Caught in Own Creation"

Now that you mention HOM I COULD embellish this story a bit more if you'd like /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Once again sorry for the delay guys. Take care.

Three 44s,

I just seen that video you posted and that is just crazy! I Hope if I catch a coyote or fox they don't get that p---ed off /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hello Moe,

I like your trap!!! Good work .....

Now just think about the ribbing your dad would have given you if you HAD been stuck there when he got off work ........... or worse still the unfinnished lectures ........ LOL!!! Talk about a captive audience!!

One thing though: You gotta realize when you build a trap that well and that large you could get varmints that you did not count on! 'otes on steroids are the exception but a small bear or a smaller coug .... you never know!!!!

I heard of a rancher that was live trapping for domestic dogs "gone bad" and nailed a coug!!!!

I am going to build some live traps (for cougar) for a local tribe and will try to get "with" my wife's digital camera and also get enough gumption to post same???

We are also looking forward to capture some sounds "if we get lucky". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif ........ no sticks to entice cat sounds though ......LOL!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Best Regards

Three 44s

Thanks Three 44's,

I would definitely be concerned with making a trap like this if I was located somewhere besides where I live. Foruntately for this scenario, the biggest critter we have around here is a yote. IF there was bears or cougs, I would definitely think twice about even considering making this big of a trap.

Wouldn't really enjoy checking the trap in the morning and finding something bigger than myself I didn't plan on catching. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif . Take care.

i guess that's one way of preventing theft, it should have had at least one axle, may be able to hook it to the 5th wheel? i'd think dirt or sand on the bottom would work best, i've heard of mixing sand and paint on the trigger/foot-pan, gives them something "semi-natural". you've asked a critter a lot just to walk up to this rig.

There's a lot of "tweeking" to do on this trap yet. I will hold off until the summer to make a few things better when it's nice and warm out. The concept is there which is the main thing I guess... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Good luck and I mean that sincerely. You can leave that out there 5 years and probably never catch a coyote. I did loan one somewhat like it to a guy for fox telling him the same thing and danged if he didn't catch 2 and brought me pictures to prove it.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif You guys are something else. Every time I think that this topic has been laid to rest, another post comes up. Over 1000 views...yikes /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif.

Awwwww mannnn. I had this topic on e-mail alert when someone responded, it sent a message to my cell phone.

I seen a reply come in from Moe, raced home to see what he caught and I get this?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. Let's see how long it takes you to race home this time Jim.
