More Alaska bear tales was my favorite book when I was a kid. ABT was right up there too. As for bigfoot, My highschool Bio. teacher was of the mindset that it was pretty much foolishness to think there was such a creature. He works summers in Yellowstone and spends a lot of time in the N. cascades. But is was always fun to suggest the possibility and get him going. As for me, I don't flat out deny it, but scientific proof is needed, namely a carcass, and as stated above it would be a media nightmare.
 
Thanks for the kind words, Brennan. Out of curiosity, have you read Some Bears Kill, Bear Tales for the Ages, Cheating Death or Danger Stalks the Land? There are some rip roarin' stories in each of those. Amazing that the survivors did. I've long heard the agrument for "proof" of BF. A friend told me he'd believe when he saw one. I asked him if he'd ever seen a wolverine. Whoops! He had to chew on that one. I'm pretty sure that I heard on one of my tapes the other night that a "teller" told of an old Indian who told him that the Indian's forefathers or some such told him that they'd seen 2 or 3 BF roll a huge boulder over the body of one of theirs, that they "buried" their dead. Is that a possibility? When I met Wes Sumerlin in 1998 (who's purported to have seen several) and saw his collection of plaster casts and the twisties--willow branches 1-2 inches in diameter twisted, it didn't take the non-scientist in me to realize that I couldn't have made the prints nor could any man I know twist such a branch...shoot, I'd be happy to twist a 1/4 inch sapling! There's too much out there to doubt...it's almost like the argument that the atheist needs more "faith" to believe in no God than to believe in one. Some day your questions (and/or doubts) will be answered. A student, eh? As in college? I peeked at your profile...thus, I assume, Lynden/Iowa. lk

I haven't read any of those other bear attack books. I would like to, but most of my reading material is overpriced textbooks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif You struck the nail dead on, I am a college student. I am a biology education major and I only have three years left. The good thing about going to school in Iowa is that there isn't much to do compared to WA so I can focus on my classes. But this means my hunting is very limited, but a few sacrafices are worth it.

Sounds like Iowa IS a good choice for keeping your mind off WA stuff. Three years will be over before you know it and you can look forward to utilizing your bio degree. Suggest you consider some additional topics like the environment to add to you bio stuff and you'll be more marketable. most of the bio majors I worked with in AK Dept. Fish and Feathers (summer commercial fishing temporaries) were lowly paid. Don't know how those guys survive as ADFG employees. If you can get into some other areas of expertise, it will be good. Instead of wishing your 3 years go by quickly, let me wish you the best of health and good things in the next 3 years...to maximize your potential. Best wishes. lk
