bipod for sitting/kneeling

I need one that pivots horizontaly to track game, is high enough for kneeling, and holds an 8lb gun sturdy in an upright position while I'm calling at night by myself. Harris is too short, are there any that can do all of these requirements?

On the Stoney Point Rapid Pivot, does the part that attaches to the gun come with it or do you have to order it seperate?

I like the idea of it actually being connected to the gun instead of just sitting it in there like you would with shooting sticks, etc.

It comes with it.

You have to specify rifle or shotgun. Easy to install the button on to your front sling attach point. Bipod snaps on/off. Lightweight, pivots horizontally and has a lot of vertical range.

I love mine (all 4 of them, My rifle, My shotgun, and both of my grandchildrens 22s.).

I have the primos bipod trigger stick. They are fantastic for kneeling and standing. In my opinion there is no other bipod that can adjust up or down as fast as these. They will also allow you to rotate side to side if you need to.

But if you use the sticks doesn't that either mean you lay your rifle on the ground while you're calling or hold it in your arms or by a sling? Gets kind of tiring to hold a heavier gun for 30 minutes on a stand. And I don't want to lay my gun down in a dirt field either. Hunting alone at night you need to get things streamlined as it's hectic enough. I have plenty of shooting sticks and they don't provide what I need as far as keeping the gun up off the ground in a ready state.

The Harris and Caldewell are too short. The Vanguard's look ok but I still don't know if they'll hold a gun in the upright position.

Rapid Pivot Bipod for me also although Stoney Point just came out with Rapid Pivot Sticks that attach to the same attachment point as the Rapid Pivot Bipod but fold up and are quite a bit lighter and nore compact to carry. I just tried a set for the first time yesterday and they hold promise for a "Better-than-shooting-sticks" alternative. You still get the quick vertical adjustment by kicking the stick legs apart or together but they stay attached to your rifle on stand so you can swing to face in-coming predators. No Off Season has them in stock but they are not yet up on the website yet. PM if interested.

I use diaphram calls. Both of my hands are free to hold my rifle/shotgun.

My rifle/shotgun are up and at the ready (sholdered), not on the ground or in my lap. So, no, it doesn't get tiring. The bipod carrys most of the weight.

Of corse, I don't hunt at night, Yet. However, I do know that, due to the workload, it is a two man job.

Does everything you want.
Cabela's had them.

I only see one that goes up to 23". That's on the short side for kneeling. I've seen a few people that tried to make extensions for the legs. Most said they got a bit of wobble in there. I may go that route and try to make an extension that doesn't have movement although it will add some length. I still need to see the Vanguards up close and see how stably they are.

It's tall enough for me kneeling but I'm only 5'7". You can put the feet closer together to get more height. Mine sits up by itself with it mounted like in the pic. With the yoke and rubber strap that came with it I liked it really close to the magwell, but that throws off the balance with the heavy 18" barrel. But I like having the trigger close and the easy pivot of that position. I'll be searching for the happy middle ground and mount a stud just for it. I ran it normally a bit tall and with the feet kicked forward a hair, that would hold it against my shoulder to have hands free. Also I could lean forward or back just a hair to change elevation when looking through the scope to shoot.

If you want something hands free and that adjusts from 20" to 42" have a look at the Caldwell DeadShot. I've messed with them in the stores and they feel really nice and fold up easy to carry. I haven't got one yet but I'm sure I will before long.

caldwell bipods go out to 29"... that is what i use when sitting down on level ground with my low turkey chair... it works great... but have thought about putting extensions on it for sitting on hillsides...

I had short and long primos trigger sticks(mono) sold both of them and got a bog-pod bipod which I like alot better.
