bipod or sticks? comments....

There is no comparison as far a readjusting for a shot. The triggerstick monopod is the way to go. Your hand is on the handle already, so no extra movement to simply squeeze the trigger if necessary for adjustment. Easy to pivot, vs. moving the bipod. I've tried all kinds, and at first didn't think the monopod would be any good. But am so glad now that I gave it a chance.

I've tried nearly everything and NOTHING works better than a pair of shooting sticks. If you plan to shoot up-hill, down-hill, uneven terrain or even in the snow, shooting sticks can do it all. Cheaper too! The trigger stick is just a gimmick in my opinion. Your mileage may differ.

another disadvantage to the sliding adjustable sticks - Good Luck if you hunt in below freezing temp and any moisture collects around the joints of the stick (sleet, snow powder, etc)..

My bet is the Coyote will laugh at you when you bang it against a tree to free it up, or heat it up via Bic Lighter.

At $100 (give or take) the Trigger Sticks are High-Priced Gimmicks.

I have a single shooting stick that I got for my son at Wally World ($10) and I have taken from him.lol I have a set of Stoney Point shooting sticks but the mono I like best. I have never found a use for bipods other than shooting off a bench. They are nice in the prone position but I dont like to lay down when i hunt. lol

Well, I ignored other peoples advice here on the bipod/stick debate and bought a Harris 27" bipod, $115.00, mounted it, hunted with it twice, then removed it and went back to my home-made sticks. The Harris is a well made product, but sticks are just so much more versatile IMO.
The only down side to sticks is it's not IF you'll accidentally leave them in the truck or on the stand, but WHEN.

Has anyone tried the Caldwell tri-pod aluminum shooting rest? It holds gun at both ends, swivels and tilts. I was looking at the bog one and decided that I liked features of this one best. Ordered it Sun. from MidwayUsa, $94.00. I have both the mono&twin adjustable shooting sticks that I use for auto shooting. But I like to use my 7 Remmag and sit in a turkey chair,Gille and shoot long range. I have a 42inch Harris Bi-pod on it now,but it doesn't give the movement I want. these Caldwells are aluninum, and come with carrying strap. Going to have to get paint can out though. Just wondering if anyone has had any expeience with this. They have a video of it on MidwayUsa.

I've got Primos Trigger sticks, awesome. BUT a bit heavy & not as easy to adjust on the fly as I'd hope.

Also got these, Bi Pod Shooting sticks, and I used them on stand last time out. Very comfy, super easy to set up on your hip MAKING it ultra easy to swing on game coming from any direction.

Check out the Bi Pod video Bi Pod Shooting sticks

True that. And gloves, and remote, possibly the caller(yeah, I did), camera.

A first for me this year, my favorite stool. It was to far to go back for that one. I hope who ever found it enjoys it.

A lesson I may of FINALLY learned(maybe)... NEVER, NEVER, NEVER get back to the vehicle and set some of your gear on top while putting other stuff away!

I have both stoney point sticks and the short primos trigger stick bipod, Like both , but since i got the trigger stick i have not used the sticks, carry them in my bag for back up. WOW $109, we have them here for about $80.

"TIP'EM OVER"

Ive been thinking of purchasing one of the sitting (tall) Versapod bipods. It appears that they allow for a lot of movement and flexibility...pan/tilt/etc. Anyone here use one? What do you think of it?

Where did you find a 42" Harris?

I bought a snipe pod, its really a quality product and works as good as shooting sticks, but you can let your gun sit by its self like a bipod

I made these out of graphite golf shafts. Put a rubber hose between em and paint em up. I used arrow inserts and tips for the legs.

I bought the stoney point rapid pivot bipod last year and it was exactly what I was looking for. Very steady while still allowing you to adjust your shot at any angle. It snaps into your swivel stud so you can even pick up your gun and reposition with just one hand. Works great when holding a light in one hand at night too.

I got what is called an evo pod for Christmas. they are at academy for around $40. Basically it is a bipod, that has 3 different tops to it. One with a "v" to rest your barrel in, one to attach a camera or spotting scope to, and one that attaches to your sling swivel. It has a quick attach point that works good. I hunt alot of open country with alot of tall grass and brush, so I use a small stool to sit on. It extends out plenty tall enough to use while sitting on my stool. I couldn't find a bipod that would go tall enough. Sticks work good too, but I like that I can attach these to my gun. Very convenient. They are not top quality but do give a rock solid rest. Great for the money.

Well, I have been doing a lot of looking at reveiws on the trigger sticks, and have found many people saying that they have problems with them in inclimate weather. some of the problems they have stated are that they will not extend on their own, will not retract, and they slide down under the weight of the gun.
With this in mind, and since I do live in Minnesota and have lots of sub-zero weather hunting with snow and moisture. I think for now I am going to make a set of sticks. I have found a very good design on line and I think I am going to use your idea with the golf clubs Jay since I have some old ones around.
This will be cheap, and I can possibly get a bipod also then, best of both worlds, right.
Thanks for all the ideas and info guys, this is the best site I have found for helping a new guy.
