Well ive finally talked my mom and dad into letting me get a coon hound, and I have my heart set on a black and tan. My dads told me storys about the ones he used to run for coons when he was a kid and it got me all excited! I am only getting one and was wondering how are they for coon hounds, Im buying a pup so if theres any advice yall could give me Id really apreciate it. Also what materials do I need for training? I was thinking a shock collar and maybe a GPS collar but im not sure. Pretty much any training imformation you have for me will really help!

I prefer a walker myself, but lots of guys use black and tans. Just like any dogs, there are good ones, and bad. If its a black and tan you want, go for it. As far as training all you need is time, and and a few supplies. A rag and some coon urine will do the trick. And when you feel he is ready, show him a live coon in a cage. You don't need lots of fancy equipment. Though a tracking collar is a good idea, it doesn't need to be GPS.

My mom and dad used to run plotts and black and tans on coons before they got curs, they prefered their plott, but the black and tan was good too they told me. I've always been a sucker for a nice, old-fashioned black and tan. They're beautiful dogs!

Black and tans are fine just dont fall into this one is better than that one, or become color blind . Do your research and dont buy the first pup that comes along hunt the parents or the pup itself . You can also check out coondawgs.com lots of good info on that site

And make sure you get the long eared old fashioned kind lol. Not the one that looks like a Doberman. Best of luck. The black and tans were always my favorite

Whats wrong with dobermans? LOL j/k, I had my dobermans ears cropped so she did not look like a black @ tan LOL.

I think a black and tan will do you good, even though I was a blue tick guy for years. I have seen many good black @ tans. Good luck with finding what ya want.
