I killed a black female in Kentucky in February. Everyone you show pictures to say it was crossed with a dog. Coyote show no features of a dog cross. After researching this is a color phase alot of other mammals experience the same thing. They look strange in the field, especially with another coyote with a regular color to it. The one I killed looks darker in the field than up close. Great kill skraps.

We have had several Black coyotes killed in my area. I was at a coyote seminar a few years back and the main speaker was a retired biologist for the PA game commission and he claims that eastern coyotes originally came from Canada. Coyotes coming from the west moved through Canada and bred with brush wolves and their offspring then moved into the Atlantic states. These coyotes/brush wolves are bigger and display more colors then their western cousins.
