Black Coyotes?? Pics....

A search spit up these guys. The second one I don’t think would be considered black but he has a nice color.

This one was captured alive in 1999 in southern West Virginia. It was an adult female

They seem to be a south eastern thing. It sounds like a recessive gene. I would bet that a lot of Coy dog sightings were these little fellas.

Is the Black Wolf more common than the Black Coyote? I found these pictures of black wolves during my search.

Is it just me or does the black color phase of canis latrans look a heck of a lot like canis lupus? I know the pics at the bottom of 187's last post were wolves, but I had to do a double take on the second one, as well as the original pics, to make sure I wasn't looking at a wolf. They're obviously coyotes, but they do seem to bear a little closer resemblance to the bigger cousins, wearing the darker fur.

RanUtah,

Krusty, you have been on a roll lately, just cool it for a while, would ya?
Dude all I did was try to help, and I apologized for that... and said I don't care whether or not the cartoon gif stays up.
What part of that wasn't cool?

Signiture edited because Krusty's ol' lady doesn't like it.
My wife never said whether she liked it or not... especially not on this site, so this statement is bull... I didn't feel it should go by unnoticed by me, and I call BS when I see it.
My wife inquired what site had stuff like that, because it was so out of the norm for the ones I usually frequent.

And can you define what you mean by "on a roll"?

If you check my recent posts on this site I think you'll find them all fairly positive, for quite a while now... in fact other than this thread, which I tried to help out in, I haven't been involved in any kind of a ruckass all the way back for 50+ posts... on another site or two this is not the case, but I respect and follow the rules here.
So the only roll I see myself on is a good one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Anyways... related to coyote coloration, I recently saw a coyote which was all tan, no black or even dark brown markings, is this common? More or less so than black variations?

Thanks for your understanding one and all,

Jeff

BTW Krusty,
I meant no harm with my post earlier, I just thought 187 was pulling yer leg and you missed it.
So, down boy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sheesh--
Step out for a few hours to go collect a few signatures and register as a gubenatorial candidate, and this place gets shot all to pieces!

"More Bandwidth, More Babes!" That'll be my campaign pledge. Or how about "More Anime, Less Animosity"?

LionHo

PS: Will somebody PLEASE cap that black coyote, take it out of freakin' leghold trap, and toss it in the back of their Hummer, before Arianna Huffington gets wind of the pix? Else I'm dead meat for hanging out and posting with you fellers.

BTW everybody,

Im running for governor of Kalifornia.
Thank you! Thank you!

I know I can beat Gary Coleman.
Contact me via email on where to send your contributions.
Thank you

I have been told by a moderator, without a moderator hat, I owe 187 an apology...

I feel like I already have apologized several times, so much of it will be cut and pasted from previous posts.

I editted (immediately after posting it) my first post to read "I hope you know this was all in good fun"...

Apperantly some of you missed this, I am sorry y'all didn't see I was joking.
I offered up a resized pic more typical of a signature gif, which could have graciously been turned down. I didn't notice that he had resized it, it slipped by me, or my computer "fit to page" and did it at my end.

I am sorry I missed that.

LionHo (not LONEHOWL) brought up integrity, and I only wondered how the reference was relevant... I never thought my own integrity was called into question.

My referrence to LONEHOWL's thumbnail sized pic was not a dig at him, it was an inside joke... I helped him to resize it so it wasn't so big too... at his request.

I am sorry if it seemed I was taking shots at him.

I am also sorry, but I am sick of looking at the cartoon babe, I liked his Pitbull Pup so much better... and I never heard my nephew mention that he could see the puppy's naked butt.

I did say I don't mind if 187 or anyone else helps people with posting of pics, I also said I didn't feel he'd step on my toes.

I repeat... I am sorry, 187, if I stepped on yours.
And if you didn't understand I did mean I admire, and believe in your computer skills, I am sorry for that... it's not like this pic stuff is hard, right?

I too tried to drop this, out of courtesy, but I kept being addressed in this thread, and falsely accused of things I have not done (on this site).

To one and all, I am sorry this thread got sidetracked, that wasn't my intention... I just wanted to make a funny.

I am sorry,

Jeff (wavie smilie left off so's to leave bandwidth for 187) KIDDING! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I'm down here

Edit* to fix reference to integrity thread...

Now IM missing something. Where in this thread did I bring up integrety?
I was just pointing out that you MAY have missed a joke.Just trying to hep ya.

I stand corrected again,

It was actually LionHo who made referrence to the "integrity thread"

I should change my screen name to Apolo G... 'cause all I seem to do anymore, is say I am sorry!

My bad...

Jeff

Thank you, Krusty.

FWIW your integrity was never meant to be called into question, the "Integrity" thread was mentioned only to reference where all the giddyness about the cartoon babe had begun and bubbled over into this thread.

Bob Mc: Forgot to mention you awhile back in the thread, but thank you, my friend, for emailing the black coyote pix.

All: must remember add Graemlin in future so you will all know I am just big kidder haha /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
LionHo

PS LoneHowl: I too am running for governor because I KNOW I AM FUNNIER THAN DAT PHAM (and quite nearly as ridiculous as GARY COLEMAN!!!)

I saw a black coyote last night on a deer spotlight count. It was in a large hay field about 50 yards from a county road. It was a young pup. It was small enough that when I first saw it I thought it was a skunk. Then I realized it was moving right to be that as he was moving away from us through the grass. After getting the binoculars on him it was clear that it was a completely black coyote. We have seen coyotes several time before on this particular line and last year we saw several that were sitting on top of round hay bales howling. We heard a pack last night, but didn't see them. A little latter we saw a river otter in a stock tank. They are fairly common here, but that was the first one that I have seen on a spotlight count. Night before last we saw a nice bobcat laying about 25 yards from a county road. We have lots of bobcats, but rarely see them on the spotlight counts.

Those are some great looking pic's! Would like to have one of them Black Yotes in a full mount!! Is this caused by interbreeding with dogs somewhere down the line??

Anyways... related to coyote coloration, I recently saw a coyote which was all tan, no black or even dark brown markings, is this common? More or less so than black variations?
Has anyone else seen this color variation, actually two of the young coyotes I saw last week were "painted" like that... all grass brown, without any dark markings (I am told the tips of the guard hairs have a small amount of black to them, but that's all... not even the tip of the tail had any color to it).

What effect would these color variations, black and no black at all, have on fur price?

M. Lewis reported seeing black coyotes long before men and dogs spread their way across this country, I have an old book on animals that shows a drawing of one, and calls it "Lewis' Prairie Wolf"... it shows to other color variations... a red one smaller and thinner (encountered in the deserts), and the common variation.

I don't think it is a coy-dog trait but a recessive gene thing... but it's just a theory.

I should change my screen name to Apolo G...
Now that's pretty funny!

I'll see if I can find another puppy pic to add to my sig. I'm sure I know someone with one.

This site is based on helping others. That, to me, is the best part of it. The witty humor take a close second. I'll keep tring to do my part.
