I recentlty bought a .223 and black hills ammo seems to be cheep and chambered in .223. Is this ammo any good? and if it isnt, what other brands of .223 ammo do most of you like to use.

Looking forward to a response

I buy the Black Hills 52 grain MHP, and use it for coyotes to praire dogs. I think it is one of the most consistently accurate loads that are available. It shoots very well in almost every rifle I've tried it in. Including a few that are pretty finicky.

I think that the Black Hills .223 ammo is great, especially for the price. I use the 55 grain lead tip and it works great in my Rem 700. MUCH better than that stuff that comes in the red white and blue box (forgot the manufacturer name). It can sometimes be hard to get though, so I buy quite a bit when I find it. Of course since it is made in South Dakota I could just be predjudiced /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifI think they also make it for the military but don't quote me on that.

You'll need to try a box in your specific rifle, but in general it has been the most consistent and accurate factory ammo I've found. The reman 52 gr MHP is also my choice.

Hornady and Sierra both make 52 gr .224 bullets. I believe the Sierra is a HPBT Match--that's my guess as to what it is.

From what I've read, AA 2015BR is a good powder for this bullet weight. I don't think Black Hills will tell what they're using. Most ammo companies use their own blend and won't give out that info.

Wiscokid,
I have shot a few BH rounds over the years and would have to say you can pay a lot more money for ammo that wishes they were that good! You have to understand that not every load or brand shoots the same in each rifle. This takes time to find the right load. However, BH loads every bullet you will ever need. Their new 40gr. Nosler BT load is a good one too. They also have a new 22-250 load coming too.

been shooting it for four years in my a.r. very accurate . they use xterminator powder , sierra and hornady h.p. bullets are both used by black hills . Jerry .
