Black Hills .223 Red Box vs Blue Box ??

Have any of you actually shot both the BLUE box and the RED box in BH .223? I know that the blue box is reman, but I just wondered if you could actually tell any difference in performance or especially feeding/ejecting in an AR?

I'm looking at .223 50gr V-Max.

I've used both in my 20" V-Match Bushmaster. No difference in shot groups or feed/function. So I went with Re-man Bluebox. When useing Black Hills ammo.

Hidalgo,
I have only shot the 52 HP Match, blue box. I bought these the same day as I bought my Bushmaster Varminter. If I didn't reload they would be my go to for shooting my Bushy. The first five rounds locked up into one small hole, much to my surprise. The rest of the 45 rounds provided the same level of accuracy. It took quite alot of powder, bullets, and time at the reload bench and range to beat the groups from that Blue Box. If you don't reload I think they would be worth a try. I do prefer the 52 Match HP for coyotes vs the V-Max, less fur damage in my opinion. Good luck!

Same diff. but the blues are lot's less if you can get em! Like B-Splat said, in my Bushy they pound one nice 1/2 dollar hole with many rounds. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif For the $$ you cant do better. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I bought some of both blue box and red box about three years ago in .223 50 grain V-Max. I found that the red box used Winchester cases and the blue boxes were Lake City and BHA (but never mixed in the same box).

All shot great on prairie dogs.

I have not shot the red box stuff, but last year i had
several problems with the blue box feeding in my ar. it could have been a
bad batch or something though.

I've only shot the blues until this year. I tried some of the white box. No problems with them or the blue box. The only differance is they have dings in the brass.

I run local High Power matches and a bunch of the competitors utilize Black hills ammunition.
The blue box seems to work just as well as the red box and nobody has complained about the accuracy of either.

I know a lot of you guys rave about blackhills blue box and how well they shoot and I have always shot them with great results through my bolt actions, but I have been having a lot of problems with them misfeeding or hanging up through my ARs. I've tried them in my Bush Varmiter, Bush Pred, and Armalite and the same result. I shoot one full clip fine and them a hang-up in the next clip. Switch to Win White Box, UltraMax, or Rem and no problems. I wish I had better results with them because of the price. But they don't seem as reliable as other ammo. I have shot over 300 rds of Blackhills and have had nothing but hang-ups with it with 3 different ARs, so it is not the gun or clip it is the ammo. I don't mean to pee on anyones wheaties here, just telling my side of the story with this type of ammo. Again I wish my 3 different ARs shot it well due to the $.

We have used the blue box .223 in both bolt & AR with excellent results. Both 55 gr psp & 50 blitzking or vmax. Many companies recomend them. A few have had feeding problems in AR's but sometimes it turns out to be lubrication, or a clip problem and once in a while bullet type.

I have shot Black Hills ammo since day one. It is some of the best ammo made. As far as the new vs re-man, I prefer the re-man. Have seen it shoot as good or better than the new stuff so why pay more in my book.

No peeing here, chucker.......It's ALL kinds of feedback that I wanted. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I really appreciate all the replies here.......guess I'm just going to have to try both and see how they work in my gun. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

PBCHUCKER, did you have the same problems as me with the blue box ammo, the problem i had was when trying to feed it would push the bullet back into the casing. almost like the bullet was seated to loosely, just curious because i load my own with full length dies where it is said to use short base dies with ars. but with not one miss feed with my own.
thanks satch
