Black panther video!

A zoo escapee, maybe???

Seriously though, my dad and I saw what we thought was a black mountain lion in Northern Kalifornia. It was about 4 am and we were driving to go deer hunting. We only saw it for a split second, but we caught it in the headlights and got a reasonbly good look at it. Who knows, maybe there are a bunch of large black cats in North America.
 
Why don't people who see these things while they are hunting go ahead and shoot them?????? Nobody seems to ever shoot them, all they do is video them. I'd be throwing lead in the air!!

Here in AZ we have jaguars that migrate up from Mexico into our state. It is becoming move common as years pass. You are not allowed to shoot them as they are protected.
 
As much as I'd like to believe the video it looks pieced together. Its fazing back and forth from the cat to the deer. The cat keeps going back and forth for some reason as well. Looks fishy to me.
 
Unlike Felis concolor AKA Catamounts, panthers, pumas, cougar, mt lions, a jaguar can be black.

Hyperwrx, Jaguars have been in southern Arizona forever, they also range into southern New Mexico at times and maybe even Texas. At one time they ranged as far as Utah and Colorado and as far west as California.

As far as black Mt lions go, a picture like that proves nothing.
Nobody has ever come up with any kind proff of black Mt lions in the last 200 plus years.
Same thing as UFOs and BIG FOOT......You got to prove it and nobody has. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Saw one across the lake and below the dam in the Coon Creek area a number of years ago.
Deer hunters on the place also saw it.
No pictures that I know of, but it was not as large as this one appears to be and much sleaker.
Watched it turn and walk away under a spot light through a 9x scope at about 200 yds.
Sure was pretty. Big yellow eyes!!

Hmmmmm,

Looks like a feral cat to me . Seen them in various colors including black, white and everything in between. Some were rather large, the kind that will likely be tagged a "big cat" more times than not. This one moves and looks much like a feral to me, hardly the "king of the jungle" type attitude with a deer that nearby.

I myself thought that I had seen a "black panther" when I was in high school. With a little closer looking it turned out to be a Feral cat. If he would have ran off a little faster I would have been a believer myself. Fortunately he didnt and I am still a "believe it when I see it" kinda guy. With as many "wives tales" and so called sightings floating around in our heads, our minds can make us see what we want too, alot of times. In reality there has never been one killed, or even pictures or video that closely resemble a "big black cat" in my boook(this one included).

This video proves nothing to me. Grainy, shaky video of a feral cat is far from conclusive in my book. The distance and angle from the deer stand makes this cat look bigger than it probaly was.

I can believe black bobcats, Ocelots, Jaguars, and other PROVEN findings. But the "big black cat" will likely just be another Big foot in this part of the world. With as many trail cams floating around the woods these days you would think one would slip up sooner or later....must be later, or more likely never.

I have yet to see one of those or any prove that anyone else has either with the exception of one questionable moth eaten mount job from decades ago.


If someone has proof of a black bobcat, I would be interested in seeing it.
 
There was a video from a news broadcast the other day that showed up close and very detailed footage of a black bobcat in a cage. They said it was caught after many sightings and finally trapped and taken to a zoo, or some type of animal refuge. Not 100% myself, but it was pretty detailed footage.

Even more interesing than that is the "color phase" cat that Tad Brown from Lohman called up a couple years ago. The footage is on their latest video(or a recent one). We talked with Tad about it last year at the SHOT SHOW. I forget where they were at, but it was in the south. Bobcat season had not started in the area and they called it across a wide open field to 20 yards. Strangest Bobcat I have ever seen. Not a spot one, and distinct white marking on his face and chest made for an odd looking critter. It was a bobcat 100%, but not like any one I have ever seen. I have never even heard of a cat like that for that matter. It was very interesting none the less, and something you probably wouldnt believe unless you saw it. I am glad they got that on video, it is a very neat segment.

I don't know about all video cameras, but the ones I've had any experience using, all had auto focus on them and while there was a small adjustment period, that video looks more deceptive than real.
 
I'd be very interested in the DNA results on that bobcat.

I have seen a lot of black bob-tail house cats. My mother-n-law had a 20 pound house cat, so that isn't out of the realm of possiblity.

The article says somthing about 20 cases, but do a web search and you can't find anything.
 
must be a bama thing my uncle has some scout cam pics( dont know if they are still around) from 2 seasons ago of a black panther walking around during the day at our lease in seale alabama bout hour and 45 minutes from selma.

I have always heard stories from old timmers around here of "big black cats" but never believed them until i saw those pictures.
 
Honestly, think about it... You are in your deer stand and see what you believe to be an honest to goodness "black panther." Would you keep shifting back to the whitetail, or, would you stay zoomed and focused to get all the footage possible on such a rare animal? Really, come on now, think about it... My BS Meter is red lining!

That is not surprising. That seems to be a trend with evidence of such creatures. It always seems to be lost, misplaced or some such.
 
Let's be a little realistic about he Housecat theory on this one. I know most of you don't want to believe or refuse to believe in BIG BLACK CATS roaming North America and to be honest I just don't know what to think. There hasn't been any solid proof that's for sure, but one thing for sure is the fact that the cat in the video is a WHOLE lot bigger than a house cat.

I don't know what it is, but there is no denying that it is a BIG BLACK CAT...
 
I've seen rabbits in my long shooting lanes like the one shown that looked 30 pounds. They weren't, they were just normal rabbits.

I have seen black house cats on deer spotlight surveys several times miles from the nearest house. The tendacy is to go, "what the heck?!" and then you realize what it is.

How many times have you seen something dart across the road that you didn't know what it was?

We have had people locally clain to see a "black panther" on the golf course in broad daylight. Seems funny that something like that in a crowded area couldn't be substantiated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
