Black spots on brass

I got 100 pieces of new .260 brass and when I opened up the bag it has black spots (tarnish?) on a lot of the pieces. I took some steel wool and spun the cases in it and it dulled the spots but did not remove. Will these hurt anything? What can I do to remove them because it is getting on my nerves no matter if it hurts anything or not.

Thanks

Don't use brasso the Ammonia will weaked brass, Take it from someone who learned the hard way.Black spots won't hurt anything If it bothers you toss'em in the tumbler

Thanks for the replies fellas. They are in the tumbler now, if that don't clean them good I may give them a little vinegar bath and scrub them some.

Thanks for the help

If you really want brass to gleam try some Polishing rouge.
get a rough file and file on the rouge stick ,the put the gridings to your tumbling media. it cleans brass like nothing else I have tried, even vinger will weaken brass its all acidic base.

It's easier to buy some of Lyman's TufNut rouge impregnated (Red) media and use it in your tumbler...It's very rare that I wind up with brass that won't lose any spots on it...

I've been using it for years and just recently ordered my second batch...They sell a 're-activator' that you can squeeze into the tumbler and keep the rouge active for a long time..

I used to shoot 1,000 rounds a week in preparation for handgun matches and used it a lot more than I do now...

I like to work with really clean brass and it makes it much easier to find at the range..

Old Turtle is right, the Lyman with rouge in it works so good, it makes your brass so purdy you don't want to shoot it. I use it all the time. You can also use Mothers wheel polish. A big scoop in with your media will polish that brass real purdy.
