Blaze Orange Camo Gun?

I'd bet $$ no one has ever posed this question here at PM. I'm thinking of painting a gun I have in a blaze orange camo pattern. I painted the stock of an old Glenfield .22 blaze safty orange a couple years ago. I use that gun for coon hunting and I got tired of trying to find it everytime I leaned it against a tree to skin a coon. Worked very well for it's purpose. Anyway, I'm thinking about doing the same, except in a camo pattern, with another of my hunting guns.

Anyway, here's the question: How effective is/can blaze orange camo? I know critters can't see colors but I've heard of some studies where they say that deer might be able to see bright colors such as blaze orange due to UV. True or not? Or are critters just going to see it as a shade of grey?

I have posted field pics before with Blaze orange camo in color, black & white, and sepia. The camo viewed in alternate shades always impress hunters how well it blends.
We have used UV killer wash, but have had deer, elk, coyotes within inches(arms length) while wearing it.
Movement will give you away fast.

If he can see your gun and spooks because of it, you screwed up by not shooting him already. I say paint it if for no other reason, than it will look pretty cool.

Paint it blaze. The coyote can't see blaze and it might save your life from some idiot road hunter shooting at your decoy. Good idea. Let us see some pics when it's done.

I'd like to try a less lethal stock on my shotgun to see if maybe coyotes will come in closer because they think it's full of beanbags??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

But seriously I try to have some form of orange on while out hunting, even bowhunting.

I have an underarmour orange stocking cap that is nice when it's cool or I have a orange baseball cap too that works well.

I haven't had any issues with animals not coming in close, and my head is obviously the highest point on me and the first thing seen.

I actually did a blaze orange camo pattern on my nephews air rifle. I looks pretty cool. I did it because 1: I needed the practice and 2: Because I got tired of helping him find the darn thing when he lost it. I painted the base coat orange and then put black shapes and splotches all over it. Sorry no pics though.
