Got out for 5 sets Thursday night and got this adult male on the 4th. I got answers to my howls from sets 1 and 2 at the end of my hearing in this direction so after making a 3rd set a couple miles out the ridge from 1 and 2, I went to where I thought they might be.
I am facing N in a hollow that stretches for almost a mile with a slight N drifting wind. The call is 40-50y in front of me in the bottom and I am tucked into a hillside fence/treeline (the branches of which became a problem when the coyotes come in!) about 40ft higher than the call.
I start out with a rabbit and 3-4min in I see one coming quickly. it gets to 150ish and "disappears". As I am scanning with the rifle, I find another approaching fast. Every time I mute, he stops coming and I decide not to shoot even though he is inside 200 because "he is coming hard"-dang near regretted those decisions! When he drops out of sight ,I turn the call on again and by this time said to myself "look dumbshit, leave it on". Well, he disappears for 5 minutes!! Musta decided to nap. Finally, I catch heat through the leaves and get out of the scanner and into the gun, luckily get him stopped in a window through the branches and 'let drive'.
~100-120yds per onx. Even though it is a summer hide, if it wasn't so far from the car, I would have tried to tan it for a wall hanger.
This is the second double lung with the 55NBT that ran 50ish yds. This went in towards the back of the ribs and exited with a 1/2" hole behind the far leg-even had some copper shrapnel at the exit hole.
As a side note, Made 6 sets last night with the young fella who I take sometimes with no action other than 2 foxes called in AND MY THERMION CRAPPED OUT at the start of the 3rd set-won't power up!!! Sent the email to them a while ago.

Close enough. :ROFLMAO: IDK if you're saving fur or not, but if not you might give the Hornady 87 gr BT HP a try. Not as fur friendly as the 55's but never had one run w/a shot like that one, anyway and they shot great in my Dtech 243WSSM which is only about 100 fps faster than 243 Win.
100 yds, shot group + 1/2 min and fired #4.

I’m shooting the 87gr VMax…definitely not fur friendly, but no tracking jobs either, lol. I don’t like where they drop most of the time, I dang sure don’t want to track them through that mess. I have one field that produces and it’s slap full of cockle burrs. Need chaps just to retrieve or take a pic for verification.

Hogs or coyotes, the 87gr does smack them hard! Long live the 243 :giggle:

In one of my earlier 243 RARs I worked a great load (3 touchers at 100) for the 87 vm. Just wanted more speed after "listening" to most on here. Have had good DRTS with the 58 and 75 vm though a few ran but again, "listened" to several on here so bought 500 of the NBTs to try. If I get a few more hits that run like that and you will see them in the classifieds.
