Boat design?????

I want a new boat.

I know there have been a lot of advances in hull design recently. Unfortunatley I have not kept up with them.

I want a small boat that will do 100mph at 5500' MSL(that's 5500 feet elevation above mean sea level. Engine power is only about 65% of what it is at sea level.). I figure a new design tunnel hull V drive.

The V drive seem very efficient, and you can ski behind it.

I do not want to die in this boat, so the true hydroplanes and the old tunnel hull designs are out.

Anybody have any ideas???

I think you should stick to flying you little toy airplane. Fall and winter are around the corner and the wind will be quiet then.
How's the dog population there? We seem to have a few more here this year-lots of rabbits, so maybe next year .....
My cousin has a boat with a blown 360 in it. 130 MPH in the quarter. Just what you need to do some fast trolling at Wildhorse.

Good old Wildhorse res. I like hunting west of Wildhorse, around Tuscarora and Midas. Before they started that strip mining for gold, it was an outstanding place to hunt coyotes, had some long tails and huge deer around there too. The latest thing I heard was they have flying coyote hunters up there taking out the coyotes by the thousands. And you guys are paying them with an added 3 doller charge to your hunting lic. I'd be mad as hell if I was you guys. Your starting to get like us over here in California lol.
 
Your best shot is one of the newer twin-engine cat or semi-cat designs BUT who wants to spend $120,000 or more for something that one dimensional. (Unless, of course, you are my rich Uncle Jack and you want to get us matching boats) I am looking at "deck boats" from Rinell, Ebbtide, Tahoe, etc as a more all-purpose ski, dive, party, and cruise type.

I agree with Philo. A cat design is the best bet. Twin engines are not necessary but it's gunna cost ya to hit the 100 MPH mark. V- Drives are the strongest but not usually used on the cat style boats. I would check out DCB, Nordic,Hallet,Ultra,and there are many more out there. The Party cats are quite awesome. They have a cat design bottom with a deck boat top. With a bown big block chey you can have an 85 MPH 28ft Party boat. Cat style boats are extreemy stable, handle the chop well and you dont have all that waddle and lean when you turn. They drive more like a race car. How many people do you want to fit in it?
 
100mph! on an AZ lake. Man thats cookin.

I was looking at the specs for a ~26 Kachina with twin 502's last year sometime. I seem to remember a fuel consumption rate of ~40 gallons per hour at WOT.

MY little Maxum with a 120Merc/OB will hit 46mph on a good day. I've never been to 100. Is the boat for the intimidation factor or will you be routinely pegging it?

My best advice would be to go to the AZ Boat-Show this Spring. Take a camera and photograph some styles you like, and talk to the salesmen. The knobs selling Bayliners, Four Winns and such are idiots. But I'd expect a Kachina or Nordic salesman to have detailed input about hull designs.

Just as long as you have a good camo pattern painted on your boat, and a good rifle rest then you will be in good shape. At 100 mph you can save a lot of time traveling from one calling stand to the next.
 
100mph Jack????!!!!!!! :eek: I used to know a guy that raced those little dinky things at that speed. I am looking for a small boat, 3 person tops. If I can find a good low-drag hull design, it should not require too much power, although at this altitude, it probably should use a turbocharger.

I probably won't go to Wildhorse much. It is about 7000 feet high and the water stays very cold. Also the indians sold most of the water out of it this year. Not much water left in it. Southfork is closer, warmer, and 1500 foot lower.

What I am looking for is the best hull design. I will build it myself in aluminum. Quite a bit lighter than fiberglass with too much resin, which is standard boat construction procedure. If compound curves are needed, pre-preg carbon fiber is available.
What is a pretty stable, low drag, design?????
