BOB MARSHALL WILDERNESS

A buddy and I are considering doing an elk hunt in the Bob Marshall wilderness and was wondering if any one has hunted the September rut? Has any one have good or bad experience with outfitters?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

I'd check for myself but the Bob hasn't been a good elk spot for many years, Most Outfitters are really selling a wilderness "experance" instead of a quality "elk hunt". If you are serious about a good quality Elk Hunt check out Alberta, just my .02 worth

The Bob looks like a freeway this time of year,so many packstrings of outfitters and trailride outfits you have to stay off the trails or get run over, dont waste your time.

If you want to hunt rifle during Sept your best bet would be to the south of the Bob in the Scapegoat wilderness, you can do it on foot but you will need access to a packhorse to take anything out,its quite a ways from the trailhead to the area you can hunt. This are gets outfitter pressure but not nearly as much as the Bob and in my opinion the odds of conecting with a good bull are 10x better in the Scapegoat. If you want to archery hunt there are tons of great areas open with either public land or ranches that are in our Block Management program that gives hunters access to private land.

Since we don't have horses or mules we are looking for an outfitter for a 2X1 hunt. Have you heard of any good outfitters in the Scapegoat?

I have met a few of them in that area and honestly i wouldnt recomend any of them that I know, they are always braggin about thier clients killing little deer and raghorn bulls, they are more concerned about getting clients out of camp than finding a trophy animal.I know a few guides that outfit in other parts of the state that i would recommend just not up there, there is one outfit up there run by a family that lives at the end of smith creek rd.,the trailhead to the scapegoat, they have lived up there forever and seem to have some real nice pack string outfits,I dont know thier name but they are the only ones on that road,I would look them up if you want an outfitter that really knows the area.

if you want a GOOD Bull try western Wyoming area 55 or 56 I think?? west of Cody got a nice 6x6 bull a few years ago scored 311 ,,Tags are hard to get ,but they have quality bulls if you get one. check into Lost creek outfitters they can help .I hunted first week of December ,I think they have september hunts too?

I think I need to expand the search to outside the Bob Marshall. What we are looking for is a September hunt or early October hunt with a pack string to a Wilderness area.

NONYA if you want to send me a private message on the outfitters with less than a high star rating we can keep the board from getting slammed with a suit for defamation.

Where would you suggest starting to search. I am sure Alberta has hunting units like the US and some areas are better than others. Any suggestions will be welcomed.
