Last night I used my new scope mounted spotlight for the first time. I had never hunted at night. I setup like I would during the day by walking into the stand. After about 7 mins I had nothing come into the stand. (I thought) I decided that I would check my backside. Well there was a bobcat crouched behind me about 20 feet away. I jumped in surprise and the bobcat ran. I gave him one squeek and he stopped and looked at me. I could of taken the cat easily, but did not have a tag.

In this area we have lots of Mountian Lions and Bobcats. This experience has made me think about never doing it again solo. I want someone watching my back. I have heard to many stories over the years of cat attacks.

Am I being paranoid, or am I just a big sissy girl.

Better to be paranoid than dead. Went calling with Travis Lindley about a week ago. We saw some eye's comming at us from a long ways away down a hill. As it got to the bottom of the hill we lost sight of it so we cept calling and looking up the wash from the direction it was comming in from. After about 15 min. nothing showed up. I told Travis lets move. So he puts down his gun , picks up his light and makes a quick scan. Low and behold the dan bobcat circled around down wind and was about 15 yrds behind Travis. Twas good to have a hunting pardner cuz he let me shoot it. And I feel much safer calling from my truck.

I call from both a truck and a walk-in stand at night I haven't been solo but a few times lately.
I guess it is better to be paraniod than dead but the something that might be behind me that keeps my blood pumping. My opinion is that I have about the same odds as getting struck by lightning!

you're not being a sissy but you ARE at the top of the food chain. So if you can't find a partner ...Get your back to a tree, a good knife you can reach in a hurry and enjoy the thrill of hunting the hunters.
It's also a good idea to let someone know the general area you will be hunting and what time you expect to return ... just in case.

Some people won't call in areas that hold mountain lion especailly at night. NOthing to be ashamed of .... but it's no more dangerous than riding a motorcycle, flying a plane or kissing someone else's wife
