Bobcat Mount

I just read a thread in the Classified sections where someone was dogging another members bobcat mount (unjustly or not is your call) and they stated they had never seen a realistic cat mount. Though I agree most cat mounts look bad, I think there are probably many that do indeed look lifelike. He invited anyone who thinks they have a good one to post it. I have one that I think looks good. Here it is and feel free to give me your opinions.

Well, I'll let y'all in on a little secret. Your own mounts are like your children. You might think your kids are cute, but other folks might not. Same thing with your mounted animals.

Oh, that's a pretty good mount HoustonPDLt.

Here are some of the best mounted cats I've found: CLICK HERE Click on Gallery and then on Bobcats.

Eye's are a little wide open. Ears are a little too errect. Head up a little too high, (neck seems stretched out).
Body looks great! Ron

I'm still waiting for this one to come back from my mortician.

I just get a shiver everytime someone posts a picture of a mount here on PM. While most people can do a deer decent, I have only seen one person do a good body mount on a coyote, fox, or bobcat. I won't post a name or location here, in hopes that this offends no one in particular.

Weasel... thanks for making me almost shoot beer out of my nose. That is funny... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Honestly, the cat don't look to bad. I have seen worse and I have seen better. I for one do not have a mount for a big reason... $$ I have never had the $$ to lay down on a mount.
In the past I just had the pelts tanned.

I've got a bobcat head on my wall that looks like it tried to cough up a hair ball and it got stuck. Eyeballs are bugging out and everything. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif The coyote head next to it looks like he's laughing at the bobcat. Sometimes I put collars and leashes on them.

Its also hard for someone to do a cat because of the # of different sizes the come in a big cat in pennsylvania is as big as a kitten in Nevada etc

Now that made me shoot coffee through my nose, and a bit of a donut. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I'd have agree w/ ya Weasel. Those look like actual cats posing for the camera.
Another thing about predator mounts is that they make the face too thin. IMO /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Weasel's link above takes you to a guy who can mount bobcats. That's about the only one I've seen that does them right. Awesome. I usually save his pictures that come up on Ebay. My favorite is this one:

Joel, the one you posted is definately the best I have ever seen. I saw these posted a while back in another thread. Crapshoot has a decent looking one too.

The problem always seems to be in the face. They just never seem ot be life like. It must be hard to get right, because most don't.

All I'll say is that most of the cat mounts I've seen are just bad. I've seen some guys who could do just fantastic looking deer, elk, birds, etc., who just cannot do a cat mount to save their lives.

Having cats all my life, I'm hard to please with a cat mount. I know what they naturally look like in any number of positions and poses, and most mounts don't cut it. The guy in Weasle's link certainly does. Guy's work is fantastic.

I've got a guy in AZ who I'm going to give a shot on my cat when I get one.

I am not really impressed with most of his lion mounts, but his bobcat mounts look pretty darn good, and his custom habitats are very nice. Still, I don't think he can touch the guy above, but that guy is not taking in any more business either, and is all the way across the country. Weller's is a couple blocks from my brother's house, so it works out.

If I ever got an extraordinary looking cat though, I think I'd beg the guy from Nasa's link to take the job though. I've linked a lot of threads to that guys site myself.

It's always thehead, where the mount seems to go south? Every mount Ive seen, has bat ears, narrow, almost canine faces, eyes are walleyed, just [beeep] poor mounting. None of the proceeding mounts look much better to my eye?
