Bobcat Size?

My one and only was a scaled 23# and most others I have called are in that same general size. I have one on video though, in a non-take location, that made my 23# look like a munchkin. Man, I wanted that cat!

Most of the cats that are taken around here are 20 to 25 pounds. I did trap a big tom and he weighed in at 32 pounds. There is a fur buyer that lives just a couple of miles from me and he buys lots of cats and the majority of them are in the 20 to 25 pound range.

41 is the largest i have witnessed, a bow hunter north of me about 60 miles harvested him.big [beeep] cat! most females here run betweem 18 to 24 lbs avg, the toms 20 to low 30's

This is a 29 1/2 pound Cat. That's huge for a Southern Nevada Cat. Seems like the average weight down here is about 18 pounds. I was pleasantly surprised. He must have been one heck of a hunter to get that big. It's good to get those big ones out. They kill a lot of male kittens in the area.

I know of another northern Wisconsin bobcat that weighed 45 pounds taken by a trapper who is a friend of my Dad's.

This was a number of years ago (25 giver or take) now.

Here's one we caught on the trapline that was 38 pounds on a digital scale. I've heard of one that was 46 in this area, but didn't see it. I'm 6 foot and 215 for reference.

If true that is a world record bobcat...

Thats a good question you bring up Lonnie, Ive often wondered the same thing myself. Ive only shot 2 cats to date so far which are both of average size for the central Texas area (or so Ive been told)

Never got any official weights on these females but my Rough guess would be 22-25 for the 1st pic... and 18-20 for the second one... Dunno just a shot in the dark..

My biggest bobcat was taken on a club hunt and was weighed at 32 lbs. I've shot a few 28 lb cats but most have been in the 18-24 lb range.

Biggest bobcat I've ever seen was also taken on a CVCA club hunt back in the mid 60's. It weighed in at 36 lbs and along with being the biggest bobcat I've ever seen it was also the most beautiful. The fur on the back was about 3" long. It was well marked with deep brown chocolate spots against chapagne underfur. The head was big.

I've read magazines like Western Outdoors News where a kid is holding up a cat that could barely go over 20 lbs yet the caption says it weighed 50 lbs.

Critters, like fish and bobcats, tend to grow bigger the telling.

Lonnie - I didn't have a scale available on that one. It was a nice bobcat probabley in my top three for size of all time.
