Boise, Idaho Coyote Hunting

Are there many on the Owyhee front? I've been told there are many N of Eagle into the foothills. I got one in Nov. N of Emmett, ID.

Hey Bear4bbc,

I live in Emmett, and have been hunting coyote since before coyote hunting was cool. Used to do predator control for some ranchers here in the area, during 70's & 80's.
There used to be alot of good hunting places, but alot of people have bought up the land, and have put up the dreaded "No Trespassing" signs. There is now a bunch of BLM land (North & Northwest of Emmett)that has been closed and posted. One piece of BLM land has been closed for some kind of DEQ project. On the other hand, if you search, you may be able to find some places around Emmett that has not been over hunted, I suggest putting on your hiking boots, because you are going to have to walk some distance from the road, if you have been in the hills above Emmett, you know how far it is to the top.
I don't think there are as many coyote hunters here as there was a few years ago, due to the low price of the hides, everyone that I knew that was hunting has quit till the prices go back up.

I hunt in the Owyhees when I get the chance to go, there are alot of dogs in those hills. I went a couple weeks ago and howled in two groups at the same stand, they come from two different directions, but none come close enough for a shot, it sure was fun hearing them though. I like just sitting in the sage brush where it is quiet, no phones, internet, or loud grand-children, no people, just me and my Remington 22-250 VS, Foxpro FX3, and a hunting partner, and lots of quiet.

If you are interested in getting to know some of the local yote hunters, there is the Gem State Predators Hunting Association (GSPHA) the website address is:
http://www.slydogcalls.com. You might consider joining. There is a forum board for the Association. Maybe some of the members of this Association and forum may help you learn more about coyote hunting, and some places or areas to go to throw some lead at some dogs.

If I can help you out some more feel free to send me an email at DawgBustr@aol.com, I will be glad to correspond with you, meet for coffee, and maybe do some hunting together.

Good Luck & God Bless You

I to live in Emmett and have spent all winter chasing dogs north of Emmett and like what was said before watch out for the private stuff. It seems the coyotes have been called and called and educated pretty well. I have had better luck lately with spot and stalk which I like to do as well. Good Luck

There is a lot of places to hunt. You got to get out of town and look around. Theres hundreds of miles and coyotes every where you look. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif GENE'O
