bolt action 30-30

Kelbro, your statement drives home my point. The RN Powerpoint bullets were designed to expand reliably at 30-30 velocities. The heavier spitzers, that can be safely shot in the bolt guns were not designed to function properly at the lower velocities. I am not saying it would not work, but there is a greater potential for failure. When shooting a 30-30, with spitzer type bullets, he willhave to go to the lighter thin skinned bullets to get proper expansion on a more consistant basis.
 
I am just looking for something that will give me a little more range on deer and i may even use this alot for coyotes as well. I have a tikka .223 also so the faster bullets are not that necessary but would love to use it for both. It isnt even drilled and tapped for a scope. It still has the original ring on the site on the end of the barrel. Not sure if im going to put a scope on it or use it the way it is. Does anyone know what the value of this is in mint condition.It doesnt have a scratch on it. Any idea how old this might be as well. I cant find a serial number anywhere on it.It even came with what i think is the original box of ammo that only has 7 shots out of it. It looks brand new.

OK, I'm working from a 30 year memory here, but back when I reloaded decades ago I seem to remember that .30 cal bullets "mic" out at .308 and bullets made for the .30/30 "mic" out at .311

Again, that's a 30 year memory from the old Sierra bullet manual, it might be worth double checking.



You were probably thinking of the .303 British round, which uses that nominal diameter bullet.
