Bolt action vs. AR for predators?

Ok, I know this is one of those potentially combustable questions, but i cant make up my mind. I am getting a CZ 527 Kevlar varmint soon and will use it here and there for predators, but it is mostly a varmint gun......maybe.

like i said, indecisive. I am thinking I also will need a lighter wieght gun, but the CZ might be plenty good to carry too although it a tad heavy

So.......given the choice would you guys go with..........

#1. CZ 527 Varmint Kevlar (because i am getting it anyway)
#2. CZ 527 American
#3. AR

for your go to predator gun????????

AR ...

Just for the fact of doubles and triples , you can sometime pull it off with bolt guns but it is so much easier to never loose the aniamls in the scope and keep shooting. While with a bolt gun you have to take it down from site view and bolt it, just loose to much time on Predators.

I used to be a bolt action or nothing gun, but have lately tried the ar's and really like them. I have actually killed more doubles and triples with my bolt guns but that maybe just because I have hunted with them longer. It is pretty nice just to pull the trigger and watch one go down and then swing onto another without messing with the bolt. I was always a little leary of the ar's because I thought they weren't as accurate as a bolt, but I have 2 ar's that are absolutely tack drivers.

I'm still using a bolt and last year over 1/2 my coyotes were doubles. The primary reason I'm using a bolt is financial. I got my Savage PH for $600 and I own it. It'll cost $1000 or more to get into an AR, which I just don't want to spend to shoot worthless coyotes. In my country, follow up shots just aren't a big deal- I took 10 coyotes with 11 shots last year. Except for one that I missed (Excuse #12: scope was fogged. Which it was, because I'd climbed up a rim rock, pushed the gun ahead of me, and accidentally breathed on it), when I pulled the trigger, a coyote died. Had I killed that one, I would've had 4 doubles for the season, every double that came in, actually.

If money were not an issue and AR's cost the same as a bolt, then I'd probably be using one.

Bringing a rifle down to your waist to cycle the action is a lot of wasted movement and I can't figure out why so many people do it. It's fairly easy to cycle a bolt action, lever action, or pump action while keeping the rifle up and against your shoulder without even loosing your cheek weld.

There is no way you can keep your cheek against the butt stock and bolt a gun , it will hit you in the face you have to move it some,
I to dont know why some guys bring it all the way down to there waist, but you do have to loose your cheek weld , No way around that without being hit in the face.

Its not a finacial issue between the 2 for me because im an FFL and ill build one, so its more of.a functionality issue. And it is perfectly doable to cycle from the shoulder , especially with CZs micro action.

If money isn't the issue i'd get an AR. They're fun, and it'll be another gun to add to the collection...you can never have too many guns! Also, it sounds like you don't have an AR yet, so it will diversify your options for any type of hunting. Uppers are real easy to change out and give you a variety of caliber options.

I've had and built numerous, so im not new to them. Which is why i can't decide, but im leaning toward a black gun

Still would like everyone elses opinions [beeep]

Name one?

Point is, though, I already have a perfectly good shooting Savage. If I got an AR, along with a scope, then what would I do with my Savage? I already have too many guns that I don't shoot.

Bolt-cyling- I'm not sure how I do it, but I think I tilt the rifle a little bit. I know for sure that it doesn't get very far from my cheek. 10,000 rounds thru a Ruger M77/.22 on prairie dogs helps a lot, I bet.

Beg to differ on having to move from the cheek weld. There's is no way on any of my bolt guns that cycling the bolt will hit you in the face. Not even my 30-06 which is a long action. Maybe you guys need to adjust your scope position or eye releif or something

Plum Crazy lower for $129 and New Frontier 6x45 upper $499 Both are great products and tack drivers.

I understand fully about having one already you like, just giving you another option if you happen to change your mind and want one.

I had a remi 700 bolt action shot nice. It was hard for me to get the follow up shot. Im not that good so I went with a Specialized Dynamics upper and does it shoot. I still cant shoot as good as the gun but its fun if you want to go plinking just load a clip and have at it.I would go with an AR you could always Give it to me if you dont LIKE it.

I've never tried new frontier, but i've done a few builds for people on plum crazy lowers, work great, but i like an oversize triggerguard and you can't change a PC, so i wouldn't go that route.

I like my 22-250. Not available in an AR. Plus bolt guns have been getting it done for years. Plus I've never like the way an ar felt in my hands. Just my .02

Model 1 Sales and then you need a $100 Stripped lower and you can upgrade as you get the funds.
