Bore cleaning solvent?

What is everybody using to clean copper out of their pipes nowadays? I was looking through Midway a minute ago, and was fairly impressed with the current selection. Man, there's pastes, foams, creams, gels, liquids, sprays. I can't help but think that good old Butches bore shine might not be the hot ticket anymore. Since I currently own a 243 that likes to hang on to it's copper, I'm looking for the magic potion of the day.

I love any of the foaming bore cleaners. I usually use gunslick but hava also used breakfree brand of foaming bore cleaner. They all seem to work.
Let it soak at least 15 minutes, overnight is better. The blue will run out like a Colorado sky.

I finish with kroil then wipe dry.

gunslick foam bore cleaner works good. montana extreme bore cream works great. and what i use the most is sweets 7.62 it will make her shine.

Pretty much what he said. I have a 22-250 that turns into a copper mine half way through the season, and I have used everything, but these are what works.

Food for thought though. I often wonder if I take out to much copper. Everytime I do a real good cleaning, I find that I need to shoot a couple fowler shots to make my rifle shoot where it really wants to.

If I have to put the "dirt" back in there to make the rifle shoot, what was the point in removing it?

I mix Kroil 50-50 with a couple of the popular bore cleaners, like Hoppe's, Butch's, and Shooter's Choice.
For a bore that is copppered up badly, I use Sweets, letting it in the bore no longer than 20 minutes before scrubbing it out. It can etch the bore if left in for there longer periods of time.

For both carbon and copper:

PatchOut (the liquid form of WipeOut), and WipeOut, both used with the accelerator. WipeOut allowed to sit for 12 to 24 hours works really well.

For carbon:

M-PRO7,
SLIP2000
GM Top engine cleaner (which may not be available any more). The GM-TEC is the best I've ever found for bad carbon/powder fouling but it stinks and really needs to be used outdoors or in a location with an exhaust fan.

For copper:

BoreTech Eliminator. Get the carbon out of the way to expose the copper, then leave this stuff in there over night and the patch will come out dark Navy Blue. This stuff works.

I'm been going to get some Montana Extreme 50BMG solvent but BoreTech works so well, is easy to use, and won't harm the bore if left for days, that I can never quite bring myself to buy any.

My CZ varmint rifles get a thorough cleaning in the fall, takes about 3 days, then a light coat of oil followed by 1 dry patch. In the spring, absent any load development, they get a 3 shot zero confirmation, then don't get cleaned till fall, or after 50 varmints taken down, which ever comes first. Both of the CZ's (.223 and Hornet) and my Savage .243 shoot over an inch off zero from a clean bore, so I like to take them out to hunt with a bore that has already had fouling shots through it.

The new Remington 700 BDL in .17 Remington has the best clean bore performance of any rifle I own. Go figure?

Do you do any scrubbing with a brush at anytime using the Boretech? Do you re-apply and leave it overnight again to see if there's anything left, or has experience shown you that it works with one application?

Thanks for all the replies from everyone, by the way

I have a .243 that coppered up. I finally went to Sweets on advice of a gun rep. As I was not getting the copper out. I tried it several times with out complete success. On his advice I put sweets in the barrel and left it over night. A dry patch later produced coils of copper out the muzzle. Had it bore scoped and all was good in the barrel. The rifle or .243 copper faster than my other rifles shooting similar rounds.

Lucky Jim.Sweets should not be left in the bore more than 10 minutes or so.Montana extreem can be left overnight.

3 recommendations:
Wipe out Foaming Bore cleaner
Butch's Bore Shine
RB-17 Gel - this stuff is great

WipeOut is great and i have noticed my barrels are easier to clean after using it.

Butch's is the old faithful

RB-17 is what i use up to about 150 on the round count.

can't go wrong with any of them in my opinion.

Well I've tired almost all of them, even Wipe Out and I've come to settle on just 3:
1) Bore Tech Eliminator
2) Sweets
3) Slip 2000/Bore Tech Carbon Remover
(A good bore cleaner does not have to be left in the barrel over night)

Wipeout foaming bore cleaner, I use the wipout accelerator but im not sure if it does much. I also dont use metal brushes in my bores.

Butch's Bore Shin still does the trick on all my guns. I've tried carious cleaner on the market, but Butch's still does the trick for me in the least amount of time and with the least effort. I usually toss the brush after the sixth cleaning and start again with a new one. I'll clean the barrel until I get clean wet patches and a few clean dry ones and check the barrel with a bore light just to make sure she's clean and ready for more fun! Usually does take me more than 30 minutes to get it done.
