I bought a new to me Mossberg 835 Ultimag. Came with 28 and 24 inch barrels with 5 chokes. Has the gold trigger with some engraving on the receiver pick it up for 275 did I do ok? Also can I shoot buckshot out of this gun??

I have 2 also one in camo and the other in the old wood stock and forearm. Does'nt sound like you got hurt on it. It will shoot anything like said above, steel or led from 2 3/4 to 3 1/2 inch shells have fun with the new gun.

I bought my mossy 835 for $100 bucks from a guy who said he didnt want to put a junk gun in his safe! Haha a few months later we went to pattern our guns for turkey season. He then tried to buy it back for $150! It out shot his benelli super black eagle. With a decent tube it will out shoot most high end stuff. IMO Best pump shotgun ever produced. Mine likes #4 buck out to 60 yds.

Looks like I did ok. Was telling some people about it and have people offering me money to buy it lol. I don't think the 28in barrel was hardly used. The 24in barrel is not rifled or anything just a regular barrel.

Chokes are
IMPV
MOD
Full
xtrafull
and Extended Xfull I think.

Is it worth it to mount a reddot or a eotech type sight. Gander sells one thats the Sightmark looks like a small eotech but looks good.

Wear a mouth piece if you shoot turkey loads. I was warned that my 535 would kick like a mule and after shooting a few boxes of bird shot out of it I had dismissed the concept.

Then found some 4 buck turkey shot. I thought something had malfunctioned when it went off.

Four buck is not a turkey load. Did you mean #4 turkey loads?

I have an 835 that I have put hundreds of rounds through over the years. I made the mistake of having my shoulder squarely against a tree while shooting a turkey with a 3 1/2 inch load and I will never do that again! It has been a dependable gun for many years of use.

LOL Yes the 835 lets you know something happened with heavy loads.I put the second thickest(their thickest costs much more)pad Kick-Ez makes on mine.Vast improvement over the stocker.

I paid a little more than that for mine. A friend bought it new, and brought it to my house to pattern with turkey loads. He called two days later and said his shoulder still hurt and did I want the gun.
Since then, I too have out patterned some SBEs, one with high $ barrel work and a high $ custom made choke.
i've killed several turkeys with it and loads of snow geese.
It's workhorse of a gun, but it does kick with heavy loads. I bought a cheap slip on recoil pad from Wally World, took off the factory pad and replaced it with the cheapo slip on. It took most of the bite out of it.
It will be the next to last gun I would ever get rid of. My grandfathers Browning "sweet sixteen" will be with me forever.
Good luck with the "new" gun.

I hope I am not wrong, But I do believe that the instructions for my 835 said not to shoot buck shot through the Extra Full Turkey choke.

i believe that is 00buck, your supposed to use imp cyl or less for 00buck, but 4buck is fine through full chokes. and the extra full turkey chokes.

Mine came supplied with a kick-ez pad installed already. I would like to take it out and shoot some rounds through it. Do have to say I like the looks of it and the smoothness of the slide. The other question I have in at the end of the barrels they look flared out a little bit, is this the overbored to 10 gauge mossberg is talking about? I need to get some pictures of the it.
