Bought a thermal optic

If you mostly are hunting from a static position, then you probably won't be handicapped much by the weight. However static positions for the most part will have known distances eliminating the need for a rangefinder. Since you started your post saying you didn't care anything much about recording, that shouldn't be essential in your consideration either. Anyway, good luck with the new scope whichever one you end up with.
 
My hunting style is a lot like 6mm06's. I'm old and disabled (not wheelchair bound, but not able to walk long distances). I do a lot of hunting off the deck of my house, shooting to a bird feeder 25 yards away. On occasion, I get a shot from 40-75 yards. My gun is usually in an articulating rest. I would never be able to hold a 10# gun up or steady for long. Money is not an object, I never post vid's either here or YouTube or other social media, but have occasionally recorded with my ATN 4K Pro's to critique my shooting. Sometimes, it's like buying a house. You only need/want a 2 bedroom house but you buy a 3 for "resale". I want to make sure I can get .30 cents on the dollar three years from now, as I have in the past.

Listen Brother, I'm happy for you to get the best scope on the market today. I do hope you enjoy it. I'm not intending to be a fly in the ointment, but at your described ranges, that 3.5 native is going to be over kill in my opinion. At least if you decide it's too much magnification for close work you can get a good return on your investment. Hang on tight to your wife. She is a pearl of great price!

On the topic, go for it if that is what you want but l would be looking much smaller.

I definitely trend toward the higher end optics.
What I like about the Hogster/SuperHogster R. They can be used as a scanner or as a scope. What I don't like about them is the specs are a little deceiving on the weight, since it does not include the mount or batteries and I HATE CR123 batteries. While you can use a battery pack, I would obviously not want to do that if used a a scanner. I can use 16650 batteries as a scanner or a scope or add the battery pack if desired, but the weight will be considerably different than the specs show.

The Super Yoter 35 and Super Yoter 50 are pretty much in the scope only category, and with the same battery/weight concern, that it will be heavier than it is made to seem.

Yes, but if used on a selfie stick as Korey showed in one of his vids, not quite a practical. The 16650 rechargeables would do the trick though. My thought is to buy the Super Hogster R when it's back in stock, use it as a scanner or a scope and see if I like it. Wait and see if Bering Optics comes out with more models that include audio and lrf, then use the Hogster R as my scanner/backup scope.

I often have called it the "best bang for your buck" for a coyote scope. However, it is designed as a long-range scope. It has a very limited 7.5° FOV. As mentioned, this works very good as a coyote scope or long-range hog scanner but based on our conversations, I would choose other options like the Hogster Vibe 35 or the Super Yoter 35 for a dual role device.

The reason the Super Hogster doesn't show in stock is the same reason as the Hogster. A new model called the Super Hogster A3 has been released, so we are not stocking the older model. I will need to talk to the sales team and have them remove the older models.
 
OK thanks for the heads up. I would have been waiting forever for something that will not be in stock. I will look at the other options. I even signed up for email notification. I've got nothing at this point. The "new" Hogster Vibe is a 17 micron unit, and the "old" Super Hogster R one was a 12 micron unit. What's old is new, and what's new is old.

The Super Hogster A3 is identical to the Super Hogster with the addition of:[*]OLED screen vs LCOS[*]32GB harddrive vs 16GB [*]Added some image controls for better image optimization[/list] This is it. All 3 are meant to be upgrades. The base name didn't change because not much changed. Bering created a new name for the Vibe because adding recording, WiFi, and more reticles was a bigger change.

Unless you get a screaming deal on a standard Super Hogster, I would buy the A3 because even though not much changed, for resale, people still see this as the new model. The price really didn't change much but there is the option of the LaRue mount or the standard Bering QD mount. Night Goggles used to include the Bering Tactical QD mount for no additional charge. However, Bering stopped carrying that mount when they started with LaRue, so we now provide the option at varying prices.
