Boyds gunstocks problems?

Has anyone else here had problems with the service from Boyds' gun stocks?

I ordered a gun stock online through their store and after the order was completed I saw that either their system omitted a component selection of mine(recoil pad, or I did not add it. Simple mistake or computer glitch?

I called their customer service and the woman who answered told me that I would have to pay a 15% restocking fee to change my order now (even though it was only 5 minutes later, and they hadn't even built the stock yet). I told her I did not want to cancel the order, just make the change, and pay the difference. She got angry and kept telling me to read their policies. I did, but apparently she did not since it clearly says 12% restocking fee, not 15%, and that is only when you receive a stock in the mail, and you wish to return it. All I was looking to do was add the recoil pad and give them the extra $20.

I then spoke with a "supervisor", John, and he initially told me that I would have to apologize for my conduct to the woman in customer service because she is now upset. I talked calmy the entire time with her and was cordial. I was outraged. I refused to apologize for something that was not even my fault, and then I was demeaned on top of things by their own employees.

John assured me he would take care of the order personally and put a new order through with the correct information. I reluctantly continued and decided to give them a chance to make it right. They have a 1-2 weeks shipping time on their website for orders, but encourage you to place the order immediately and they will begin working on it.

I am now waiting 3 weeks and still have not received my gun stock. I called yesterday and they told me they would check on it and call me back by 3-4PM. 4:30 rolls around and they still never called, so I called them back. No one answered so I left another voicemail for them to call me back but they never did.

This place is a joke from the bottom to the top. They took the money for the stock, and the shipping, 5 minutes from the time I placed the order. I am trying to work with them, and understand that it takes time to make the stocks but their customer service is horrible.

I have 3 other guns that I am restocking this year and wanted to try one first and then do the rest. At this rate I don't think I will be using Boyds' for any future orders.

If Boyds', being a forum sponsor, would like to contact me to talk about the problems, I'd be more than happy to hear from them and try to clear this up.

I talked to Boyd's yesterday. Seemed friendly enough to me. Maybe you weren't quite as nice as you thought you were. Just saying???? Some people take things the wrong was pretty easily.

Please send us a PM including your name, order #, phone #, and email address. I would be happy to personally look into this on Monday morning and see if we can find some sort of resolution. I apologize for the customer service you feel you received and look forward to making this a better buying experience for you!

Best Regards ~ Jen

I've only dealt with Boyd's one time thus far, and they were friendly and helpful and allowed me to cancel an order, without giving me grief, when I decided to go a different route on a project. I will be purchasing from them again.

WOW!!!! I am really surprised to hear this about Boyd's...I have been using their stocks for years and have never had any issues, from the service to the fit and finish. Interested in following this thread. My main question at this time is; If I order a stock and minutes later {well before Boyd's has started working on it!!!} wish to change something I now have to pay a percentage of the cost of the stock I ordered to add more work/business for Boyd's????? If this is for real I might not continue with them. Why should any customer be penalized for adding revenue to a business????

There's always two sides to every story and the truth is usually somewhere in the middle.

My experience with Boyds was just the opposite. I changed my order too (added checkering) cept being the neurotic bastid that I am I waited until the last minute. The stock was about an hour away from shipping but the nice gal stopped what she was doing, personally went and found my stock, pulled it out of shipping, got it checkered, and shipped it the next day. No restocking charge, rude treatment, or drama.
Mind you, that was a few years ago but I can't imagine they've changed that much.
Boyds stocks, prices, and employees are hard to beat IMO.

I've got a few stocks from them and I think they've always been pretty good to work with. I love that checkering repete, makes me wish I'd have done it on my prairie hunter

Looks like they are trying to make it right. Kudo's to Boyds!

Classic

I should add that laser checkering is amazing. You'd swear it was cut.
Looking at their site I see the price has gone up quite a bit since I had this one done but it's a fair price IMO.
Guys with press checkering would sand it off if they saw this stuff:)

I have 4 Boyd's stocks, never had a problem with the stocks or the customer service. I'm thinking someone was having a bad day. I'm sure they'll make it right!

And if you don't opt for the lazer checkering, you can always spend the time carving it yourself from a knife that you stole from the Girlfriends car trunk. That's what I do. Of course I have to sharpen it first.

I've built three 10/22s with stocks ordered directly from Boyd's and I've never had a problem with their customer service, even when I needed to call and makes change at the request of the friend for whom I was building a rifle.

I hope you really were polite and cordial with the customer service representative because, we'll, being rude to the help is not cool.

I recently placed a stock order for a Rem 721. At the time, none were in stock. I expected a 2-3 week delivery.

I received it 3 days after ordering. Pleasantly surprised!

Can't beat their prices.

Let me start by saying that I think the Boyds' stocks are some of the best looking, well crafted stocks out there and couldn't be happier with the one I currently have. I had a simple problem, approached it right, and hit a wall on the other side.

I believe I used the exact words, "Ma'am I don't understand why I would be charged 15% restocking fee to change my order, when I just placed it online less than 5 minutes ago and I don't wish to cancel the order, but simply add the recoil pad that was originally in my shopping cart, and pay you guys the difference"

What I got in return was: "I cant help you there, if you read the website it clearly says on there about returns"

I obviously saw that I wasn't getting anywhere and was going to be paying 15% if I wanted my stock to be correct, so I asked her if there was a supervisor to speak with because I thought that policy was bad business and was not even what is printed on the website.

All in all, yes, that conversation is not bad and I don't feel either party was angry or rude. When the supervisor got on the phone, I was told that I need to apologize to the woman I spoke with because she was now upset.

So, not only are you going to make me pay the 15% to change the order, but I need to apologize on top of that?

Bottom line here is that I was wondering if the customer service was slipping because I have not had a good experience. I have gone to restaurants where people get sick or say the waitresses were horrible but then I go and think it was fantastic and couldn't be better. Im sure some of you guys are thrilled and some even said that they were able to change the order, EXACTLY LIKE I WANTED TO.

Then my case in point, you did the same order change as I needed to, but were afforded the opportunity to, and I was not only denied that, but then told to apologize for it?

Well, I guess it all boils down to how bad you want or don't want the stock. Eating a little crow once in a while never hurt anyone.
