I am thinking of ordering a Boyd's Ross Thumbhole Sporter stock for my Savage and I am wondering if any of you have any experiance with them? Are they any good?

Thanks

I put one of their Varmint Thumbhole stocks on a Rem. 700 BDL .243 and it worked out awesome!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
Minor fitting at the trigger guard but the rest was perfect. Of course I bedded action with Acra-Glas..., but I do that with everything anyway.., weather it needs it or not!!
The combination of the thumbhole & roll-over cheek piece make it probably the most comfortable stock I've ever shot..., and comfort breeds accuracy IMHO!!
Next time I re-stock a shooter, it'll be getting a Boyd's Ross Thumbhole!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I've got a boyd's ross thumbhole on order for my 10/17, it's the vip, I thought it would be fun to finish it myself.
It was out of stock when I ordered it so now I wait, maybe if they notice me checking my order status every day they will get it done sooner. lol

I have one on a Savage 110 in 25-06 and love the feel. I took a little extra wood off in several places to fit my hands. I took some off in the thumbhole for the thumb to hand joint and a significant amount off to allow my index finger to reach the safety without completely removing my hand from the grip.

Boyds template is a little off on some of their stocks regarding trigger screw placement. My neighbor and I have both had to drill out the front trigger guard area on some stacks and adjust the screw holes a little. If you use a pillar bedding kit this would be even easier to do, but is not a real big issue. I have bedded them all for the best fit. Use a sanding block when sanding the top of the barrel channel to ensure the edges stay square and flat.

I had ordered one for my Ruger and got so tired of waiting I caceled the order.I prepaid and was suppose to wait over 9 mths for it no way. They kept telling me that the run was comming up in three wks and when I waited for the three wks no stock then the same line the stocks made were shipped out to cutomers who have them on back order....Duh ..

Here is a pic of my 22-250AI in a Boyds varmint thumb hole.

Have another boyds stock ordered for a 270 WSM that I'm building right now.

I won't order the stocks directly from Boyd's on their website. I guess they're pretty bad sometimes. They have to supply their vendor's first, so by ordering through EABCO (EA Brown & Company), or whomever sells them, you should get them quicker, even if they're on backorder.

The vendor's wouldn't tolerate delays of too long a time as they know it'll cost them business. And, Boyd's knows this as well, so they take care of them first.

I've got several of their stocks, including the two piece Encore rifle stocks. Excellent quality and finish.
For 10/22's and stuff, I also use the Revival stocks made in Herkimer, NY. They carry various stocks for shotguns and rifles.

Hope this helps....

Take care,
Bob

I got my stock today, ordered it from Cabela's. It took some minor trimming but the action fits it perfectly. Thanks for the suggestions guys, I am very happy with it. Now if I could just get my barrel...
