Boyds Thumbhole stock on a Savage...reaching the safety?

I've been looking at the Boyds thumbhole stocks for my older Savage model 110, but before I jump on one, I was curious if there were any difficulties reaching the safety with the thumbhole grip. Is it awkward and hard to reach using your thumb? Or does a guy have to take his hand out of the grip, switch the safety, then regain your grip?

I haven't held a rifle with a thumbhole stock in quite awhile and was curious to see if any of you fellas have some personal experience. I haven't found any videos on YouTube that go over it (maybe because its a non-issue).

Thanks in advance!

when the thumb is in the hole its impossible for that thumb to reach the safety but it only takes a half second to take it out and reach the safety. alternative is using the other hand fore finger. you are overthinking the situation. very simple to remove thumb and slide hand slightly forward as u touch the safety. if u r bench shooting its a moot point as one usually is shooting single fire and just using bolt while safety stays off

By all means save your money on a Boyds. I bought a Boyds last year for my Remington 700, I had it made to look like the classic CDL look. Well all I can say is when it got to me the work was crap. I ended up putting my original plastic stock back on. The free float job was terrible, Ray Charles could've done a better free float job. There were little divots in the wood that look like being beat by sand. The finish job was terrible and it covered half of my recoil pad, then the swivel stud at the for end of the stock was not centered. It was about 3/4" to the left of center and I showed a few people and their thoughts where "WTH". Then trying to get a hold of them about it well I was unsuccessful over a three month period and gave up to accept a loss. Spend the extra $100-$200 and get a good stock.

But to your question it isn't hard just pull your hand out now the down side is if you have to shoot with the opposite. If you shoot left then you won't be able to shoot right if you need to and the opposite. That is one of the main reason why I do not use them. But do want one for a target rifle.
