Brake or Flash

Some incite please.
Will changing the muzzle brake out for a flash hider cut
down on the noise/bang so to speak?
Move it down range instead in your face. The way I shoot,
I see no reason to have a muzzle brake. Having said that, it
wouldn't be the first time i've bin wrong.

Thanks

I had a brake once and every time I shot it while hunting my ears rang for hours. One time I was hunting with my brother and I shot twice. On the walk back I couldn't hear a word he was saying. Long story short the brake came off and on went a Linear Brake. Much better in the perceived noised area. I am a huge fan of the linear brake, don't know if it actually cuts down the recoil but its a .223 not a 300 win mag.

Very good! I shoot out of a blind most of the time, and it's
not fun anymore. Way to loud. Any more suggestions.
No I can't use a superser, not legal here.

Another alternative is they make a small ear plug with a baffle in it that is open for pretty much normal hearing but as soon as you fire your weapon it closes up and protects your hearing and then re opens all in a blink of the eye I had a set of these years ago and they work well.. Midway usa is one that i know still carries these.

Linear, A2 flash hider, or ...just a thread protector...is all that I use. I do employ electronic muffs, even when in the field.

Joebob Outfitters sells the Kaw Valley linear compensator for $40something. I have one on my each of my ARs. My brother runs a Kies linear comp on one of his. I can't say how much "difference" they make because I haven't fired either without the comp in place. Certainly a better choice than a brake as far as noise.

I'm rather fond of Lavang Linear Compensators. They direct the blast forward, if you bench shoot, your friends will thank you. Does nothing for the recoil impulse though.

I am a big advocate of hearing protection. I run a standard ear plug in my right ear and a Walkers Game Ear in my left. The game ear amplifies hearing and also reduces the *BANG* by 29db. I run a brake on my AR and the Game Ear cuts the sound/noise down to nothing.

BTW I have a moderate case of tinnitus in my right ear. No doubt from all those years of shooting without my hearing protected and all that loud music! PROTECT THOSE EARS! Oh I wish we could run can's in Iowa........

I too have the KVA Linear Comp from Joebob and can attest to it making a big difference. Originally I had just a thread protector on the muzzle of my 6.5 Grendel and it was pretty loud, but with the KVA Linear Comp the noise at the shooter's position is greatly reduced. As far as recoil, the Grendel does not have much to start with, but I have noticed a decrease in muzzle rise so I feel follow up shots would be quicker if needed.

Levang, Kaw Valley, Kies, Troy, and Molon Abe (Amazon) all make linear compensators that force everything forward. I just ordered my first Kaw Valley Precision LC yesterday from JoeBobOutfitters.com. I have a Tactical Innovations LC on a .22 Savage.

I'm shooting a RRA coyote rifle with a 20 in barrel and a smith vortex flash hider. I don't think it's nearly as bad as break. I don't know how some guys can handle the noise. When I get surrounded by breaks at the range....well it makes for a short trip.

That's just me.
IMHO
