Brand new gun problem already, Help!

Ive had the same problem and it was the scope mount screws on the front. They were just a coupl thous to long. Weird but thats what it was.

I checked everything they all say 22 250 this is the first thing that I did after it didnt work. I played with it awhile today and just kept playing with the bolt because it seems stiff. And the bullet does go in the barrell but it sticks to the side a bit. I tried it today with no clip in put the bullet all the way in first and shut the bolt and it closed! did it 4 or 5 times and it closed everytime. So maybe whoever said there could have been a burr in the barrel may be right I cleaned the barrell with all my stuff and reemed the bolt in and out for awhile and it finally works. And now that I got it to work its pouring down rain and it got dark! But im much happier at least it works and I can use it soon! Of course when I try to reach GM they didnt answer the 4 times i called them tonight so Im glad I got it myself. But thanks to everyone for the tips and helping a fellow hunter! And no it was never hitting the scope, I had this problem with one of my other guns, come to find out I put the front scope mounts in the back and back in the front so one were longer then the other so the bolt didnt hit the scope!

Glad you got it fixed, but with a gun with a possible background as this one (returned) you should make sure the 4 digits etched into the bolt match the last four of the serial number on the action. All bolts are fitted to a specific action.

Yeah I already check that, and they did. I shot my gun today real quick just 2 rounds because I couldnt wait any longer. But after shooting the first one when I went to rack the bullet out it was jammed. I had to yank the bolt out again![beeep]!! I shouldnt have these problems with a brand new gun. The second bullet went through fine and came out fine, why would the first one do this??

Whatever it was it pissed me off! But shooting good now, I found the scope mount loose lastnight after I got back from hunting so Im probably gonna have to sight it in again tonight

This rifle just doesn't seem to like you. All these problems may be an omen of some kind? Beware.

I am really curious what is loose on the scope mounting now?

Is it one or both scope bases? (these are the little thingies that attach to the rifle receiver with the little screws)
OR
The scope rings? (these attach to the scope bases)
OR
The ring caps? (these hold the scope in the rings)

There is a reason I'm curious.

It was the front scope base connecting the scope to the top of the gun. Just came loose for some reason. So when I get out to sight it in again Im gonna make sure I tighten everything down extra good myself.

Hmmm, kinda wondered if that wasn't what came loose. Maybe when those screws got loose and backed out a little is when your bolt problem magically disappeared. Maybe.

Guess you'll find out if you tighten em back up.

Wondering this myself.

I had that happen to my savage the other night. It was cold out and bolt would not close with the same as yours is doing with ammo. It would close to half inch and not budge and was real tight to pull bolt back out. Took home and cleaned out the chamber and it worked fine again. You might want to give it a good cleaning being new. I was useing reloads and didnt wipe the case lube off and it gunked up when it got cold. I bet if you clean it out with hops9 you wont have any issues with it. Warm weather the lube is like liquid and will move, cold and it will build up like a snowpile. All new guns should have a good cleaning before use anyway.

I recently found a guy to reload ammo for me. The other day I shot half of the bullets he gave me and all 10 times the bolt opened alot harder then normal. But this only happened with the reloads, any suggestions as to why?
