Brandy and Dixie pics

This afternoon, I had a chance to snap some pics of a couple of young dogs in training. Both were purchased as puppies, right here on Predator Masters, from quality breeders. I'm really proud of how these two are coming on as pups in their training.

Brandy
Brandy suffered a broken back leg back in December. The leg was snapped in two, but she has fully recovered and back in working order. She's starting to go to stands with me.

Dixie
Dixie has been coming along very, very well in her training. She's been on alot of stands with me, including road trips to TX, where her and Gunner live out of the hunting rig for a week or so. Her nose is phenomenal and has a bunch of tenacity for taking on coyotes. She challenged a big male, last week, without hesitation.

Look at her size compared to Gunner!

Thought I'd share...

I second the action pics!! Both look like they are on their way to live the life of a decoy dog. With the amount of fur you put infront of them, they should be good to go. Keep up the great work.

Hahaha. Her wire hair is finally growing on me. I swore I'd never get another wire haired dog, after I got rid of my pair of Irish Wolfhound/Greyhound crosses, 15 years ago.

I need to carry my camera with me more for action pics. Hard to guide, call, control dogs, manage a hunter, and take pics...all at the same time.

I had it with me on one stand, but it the scene wasn't very tasteful and the hunter really didn't like his non-clean shot. I dispatched the coyote quickly for him.

I have another young dog in training, but no pics of her yet. She's my Ridgeback/Catahoula cross. Heck, I have had her for a couple of months and haven't even gave her a name yet.

Great photos Tony! Great looking dogs!

I'll be calling this week if you'll be around?

Talk to you soon!

Great pictures Tony, Thanks for sharing them.I own Brandy's Grandmother, her name is Liz and Dixie's mother is Liz. So even though they look so different they are very closley bred.
Man, I love that look that Dixie shows. She does not care about those dead coyotes she just is looking for more. You talked about the nose and the grit but you forgot the brains, but it shows in those pictures.
I think alot of guys don't fully understand the art of a decoy dog and that it takes a little nose, a little grit and a whole lot of smarts.
Thanks a bunch.

Great point Devin. Dixie really does have the smarts that it takes to be a decoy dog. She's got a very bright future here.

I've had my share of dogs that "looked the part", but didn't have the brains to back it up. A good example is my hotblood greyhound. Super fast, but not game smart...or street smart. Doesn't even know how to navigate a barb wire fence. Her running mate is born and bred coyote dog and is light years ahead of her in the brains department.

The jury is still out on my ridgeback cross. She's 6 months old, but is way, way behind in her social skills and hunting skills. I'm hoping she's just a late bloomer, as she has some size that I want in a female, otherwise she's destined for a new home.

I just love that look in her eyes. That is what I invisioned when I bred her parents. At the age she is and to see that look in her eyes, and she is still a pup. WOW
That is something you see in an older seasoned dog. Or maybe your wife was just holding a steak in front of her to get her to look like that.lol

I know what you mean. All I said was "Sick 'em". She's already got it figured out to look for the coyote.

She does the same thing on stand, same stare as Gunner.

Also, you'd be surprised at how deep of a bark she has. She's very focal at approaching coyotes and they are eating it up. She definitely earned her stripes, decoying last week. I plan on getting some of her action on film, very soon.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and will tell a story.
The story I see is she wants to work a coyote not just play with a dead one.
I look forward to seeing more of both of them.
Brandy's Grandfather (Rebel) is one of the greatest coyote dogs I have had the pleasure of seeing work. Owned by Hitman243
If I am not mistaken she is Rebel bred top and bottom. Now you want to talk about a dog coming from proven Blood?

Hey Tony, ridgebacks, if they turn on, are very slow maturing. Good luck with her.

Tony,
Those pups are sure looking good. Brandy looks identical to her litter mate Sadie that I recently got from Bobtails.

Dixie has really nice conformation and stands up on her toes good. My Jadg/Cur pup I got from Devin is doing good too. The snow has been so deep it is hard to get around, so he hasn't been on as many coyotes as Dixie. You've got to love that intensity in their eyes.

Devin,
Thanks for the kind words about Rebel and you are right Brandy is Rebel bred top and bottom. I've been using Decoy Dogs for 30 years and Rebel is the best I've ever owned.

Yeah, she's about ready to start working. I've been taking it easy with her, wanting the leg to be back to 100%, so she's behind in her training. She's ready to start working on jackrabbits now, though. I'll have here rockin' by fall.
