I am wanting to buy a tumbler or something to clean my brass. I am wanting to clean inside and out. What do yall recommend.

After switching to the stainless setup, that is one thing I love is how well it cleans inside, outside and primer pockets. Take two year old range brass and looks brand new in three hours. Definately more money up front, but well worth it.

I got a question - I'm thinking about the 40 pound unit, and I wonder, do the steel pins ever get stuck in a case? I cannot afford the time to look into each case to check.

I agree, if you want perfectly clean brass, stainless is the only way to go. Nothing will get the inside of a case cleaner than this method.

Sometimes 2 pins will get wedged in the flash hole. Not very common, maybe 1 in 300 cases.

Been running it for a while and occationally had two pins wedge in together and block the hole when i first started. The directions say to throw any that do that away so I did, I've not had one since the first ten batches I'd say. Even when I did have one it was only like 1 per batch.

Stainless can only be used, effectively, with a rotary tumbler, detergent and water. It's too heavy to use in vibratory tumblers.
If you already have a rotary tumbler, stainless media can be bought, on its own, for about $20.

Smokless do you soak your brass in CLR or run it in a rotary tumbler??

Can you post some before & after pics of brass with this process? How long do you leave them in the CLR. Do you dilute the CLR pretty good? It sounds so easy!

I'd give each one a once over. I haven't had any pins get get stuck but I recall reading a post somewhere where a fella claimed he managed to leave a pin in the case when he charged it. It supposedly made quite a mess in the barrel when the vaporized SS deposited itself in the bore on firing. I can't swear it's true, but I tend to be a little more vigilant now.

Ok, here is a fast sample of what I do. Here are some brass that will be cleaned.
Primer pockets on uncleaned brass.

You can soak for longer and it will clean more. I have soaked them for as much as an hour but I don't think it is necessary. 15 to 20 minutes is what I usually do. Let them air dry over night.

Thanks for the pics. Im going to build a rotary tumbler here soon. Im going to source all the parts from a treadmill.

I've not had a pin get stuck and I've been using SS media for about a year now. The difference is absolutely amazing. The only tedious part is rinsing, drying and laying the brass flat otherwise sometimes you get water stains. It's not terrible but even after an hour the brass comes out so clean it's worth the effort. 3 hours makes it look like jewelry.
