Bridger trap size

Ive been using number 2-3 Bridger coil spring traps for coyote but I'd like to add a few more. I see the 1.65 with 4 coil spring kit installed is a bit cheaper. Will I be happy with these as extra coyote traps or stick with larger ones? I wouldn't mind having smaller traps to bed, especially using waxed dirt.

Stick with the larger ones for coyotes! While I'm sure their 1.65 size trap will hold coyotes especially 4 coiled - you would be working with what is called a much smaller "kill area" with the smaller jaw size of their 1.65 compared to a much bigger kill area or jaw size of their #3 coilsprings especially with the use of a wire screen pan cover.I have a very detailed report from Craig O'Gorman that is called Coyote Warriors I believe that does a very good job of explaining why a #3 size trap is a much better choice in improving your catch percentage for coyotes vs smaller traps like the 1.75's.For the price of just a cpl stamps I could send you a copy if interested. It is like $20 if you go to buy it plus you must already own the book it goes with before it will even be sold to you if you go thru them.If interested just pm me.

Also forgot to mention that the Bridger #3 coil springs are my favorite coyote foothold traps any way! I have pretty new ones. And I don't even 4 coil them. They have been plenty strong and have held just fine the way they come with the 2 coils. The only thing I change is the chain.I just ad my own kink less chain that is American made and add a MB crunch proof swivel in line and another MB swivel on the end.I just adjust them and dye them the old fashion way,wax the btm third of the trap or not and they are ready to go.Coyote catching machines they are!

I have heard very good things about the Montana #3's also.I have not tried one or don't own any but have heard they are very good coyote traps too.

I haven't had any of the Montana's themselves, but have quite a few older Montgomery #3s and #4s that I like very much.. They're basically the same trap. My next batch of traps will be Montana #3s.

I use 1.65s all the time and really like them. If you are looking to target mainly coyotes I would stick with the 2s or 3s. I trap grey fox and just catch the occasional coyote.
