I bought a couple of Briley chokes for my CZ today. A friend says they are made by Carlson. I can't find anything on the packages that say they are made by Carlson. Is this true??

Wow.... your friend needs a reality check..... Briley is one of the oldest choke mgfg's. in the country. Cliff Molar and Jess Briley were at the fore front of interchangeable choke tubes and thin wall choke tube conversions. Who do ya think made/designed all of Browning's chokes.....etc, etc,....

You want an earfull on them call their number 713-932-6995 and ask for Hannah. She is one of my graduates and has worked for them for a number of years.... Tell Her Bruce told you to call. Ask your questions

I can not even imagine how someone could come up with the idea that they were made by Carlson. Briley chokes are made by Briley in Houston, TX Check out their homepage...

All my Briley chokes were custom ground for my Benelli way before Benelli put them in their slug barrels. I seriously doubt they would go to the level of Carlson.

I don't know anything about chokes and frankly, I don't even own a shotgun to use them, but I'm really curious. What level are you talking about?

Never owned a carlson choke or duck call. I do have Briley chokes and will say that if you want your O/U shotgun to shoot the same with both barrels, get briley chokes. Absolutely top notch quality and service.

I see your gettin sucked into the clay target sports. Here are a few tips.If you already havnt done so...gun fit is 1st.shoulder your gun with eyes closed when you open them you want to be looking straight down the Rib if your not have it adjusted so you are.Pattern your gun on a white 4x4 board see where your point of impact is both barrels having the same and see if it is hi or low i like 50/50 most are 60/40.Doing this will definitly add more smoked clays.Good luck and most of all have fun..!!

Kzone is correct, if you get serious about the sport, #1 go have your gun fit to shoot where you look. My 1st shooting coach made me take the beads off my gun so I wouldn't look at them & learn to shoot where I looked. #2 pattern your gun at 20 yards with a tight choke to see where your barrels are shooting, 50-50, 60-40, 80-20, etc. Amazingly I have seen barrels that one barrel shot 8" right & the other 8" left. Imagine that at 40 yards! My custom o/u I had made to shoot 55/45, my preference. And, I live 20 minutes from Briley & been there too many times & spent too much money. They make their own chokes & will make custom chokes for you. I've shot more Briley's than I can count but that being said, I prefer extended ported Rhino chokes. I just think Rhino's patterns are more consistent.

Texas Swifty your on the money!! I will add a few lessons will be money well spent and learn the right way the first time so you wont pickup any bad habits. Will get you to higher level of shooting much quicker.

Good lessons from a qualified coach would probably be a great idea and shorten the learning curve. I'd pick who to listen to carefully. Years ago I joined a small local club. I started out with about a 21-22 bird average, began reading and watching videos and picking the brain of a couple guys that were regularly running 25 straights. Pretty soon I was shooting about 24-25 and getting a straight more often than not. There was one guy in the club that had the most expensive K-gun and about every widget imaginable, always wore the coolest shooting apparel and insisted on coaching me constantly. Constantly... Problem was he was averaging about what I did when I first started, 22 bird rounds. This guy had been shooting skeet for thirty years at that point. I used to get aggravated when I had just broken 24 or 25 targets and this joker would tell me my lead was wrong or I was breaking the back of the clay, ect. and he was three birds behind me on the score card. One scorching hot day when he began coaching me after I had just broken 97 birds and he was in the 80's somewhere I just handed him my card and told him to get back with me when he beat my scores and walked off. Maybe I was rude but I'd had it with him.

Two guys I shoot with are competitive shooters and one is a coach(sorta) All three of them have been coaching me some. Mostly on how to spend my money!! Practice practice practice!!!!

I use Briley when I have something that needs some serious custom work, like a French Manufrance one of a kind Ideal that someone screwed up a choke tube installation and Briley is going to solder in a fixe tube to leave the gun looking original. For most of my choke work I use Mike Orlen for Colonial Choke installation for less than half the cost of Briley and all the work is excellent. I trust my highend Euro guns(Darne's, Bernardellies, Sauers) to him for both fixed and tube work.
