Browning BLR opinions?

First time here. Not too keen on the newer BLR's. I have one of the older, steel frame ones that my Dad left me. He had a light varmint profile, 26" barrel (.243) put on it. McGowan Barrels did the work and it shoots like a house on fire and still performs flawlessly. JohnnyK700

Thanks for the Welcome. It's not too bad. I'm used to the Sendero's/VS's/Coyote models and this fits right in. Tom, I lived in Eastern N.C. (Duplin Co.) all my life (44yrs). Just recently (Aug07) upped and moved to Washington state. Wow! what a difference.

Aluminum recievers and plastic gears. There is some "interesting" information being circulated around some peoples gun shops.

No doubt about that.

Both of you should know your facts before you so readily open your mouths and insert your feet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif It is a 100% fact that there were/are BLR's out there with both plastic gears AND alloy receivers. Have seen 'em with my own 2 eyes. Whether or not they have since "corrected" the gear problem and changed them to metal, I'm not sure. Either way, BLR's are still junk. I doubt that they've fixed the abysmally heavy triggers or 2-piece firing pins that are notorious for failing to fire. Or nylon bushings. Or the worlds worst balance of any levergun in existence. That's okay, like the A-bolt, it's the ignorant that keep them in production. Maybe I should visit your gunshop some time. Should be entertaining ......... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I talked to the proprietor of my local shop who's a Browning afficianado and even he said the newer ones must suck as they had quit stocking them a couple of years ago because noone was asking for them.........

Oh wait, apparently you don't respect the opinion of your guy either.........

I don't know about the newest version of the BLR, however, in the older ones the "gears" are not made of plastic.

Wrong answer..........

Just got off the phone with Browning. "Rick" said he knows for a fact that the BLR's had plastic or nylon gears in them because he himself had one that needed repairing. Same problem, chipped teeth. He also told me that they have changed the gear because of so many problems. I asked him if they were metal now, and all he could tell me was that the old plastic gears were white, and the new ones are black.

Nativecraft----I read your insulting remarks of your lack of respect for my knowledge of firearms when I came in from work last night. Was too tired to really care at the time. I see that you've since edited it. I feel the same about your "knowledge" of firearms. You've no first hand experience whatsoever, and rely on what others tell you to be fact. One minute you are asking me questions, the next you are telling me "facts". This will be more than apparent to any who read this thread. Go out and shoot, hunt with, buy and sell, a couple of hundred rifles as I have have, then MAYBE you'll have a clue. At this point, you should just shut up and listen and learn. As teaching is not your for'te(that means not your bag).......

Yes, I edited my remarks because I decided I was above lowering myself to your level of disrespect for folks that haven't "bought and sold a couple of hundred rifles". I'm sorry you had the pleasure of reading it.

Oh yeah, I've never had to "buy and sell a couple of hundred rifles" - I purchased a nice A-Bolt .270 back in the 80's and it has never failed me - why pizz away money looking for the holy grail when what I've got has served me well.

Anyway, according to "Linda" at Browning, the current gears are made of metal. That's all I needed to know.

Why Tom----You've never seemed to stop at lowering yourself in the past. Why now? Could it be because you are so wrong on so many levels?

That was a pretty weak answer from someone who was so sure of himself only moments ago as to insult another. I don't recall insulting you when YOU ASKED ME for my opinion on the BLR. Apparently, you are as much oblivious to this fact as you are about rifles in general. That's okay though, as I expected as much......

I've no disrespect whatsoever for new shooters. I am more than happy to help anyone here, if I can. I comment only on topics I've experience with. You should try the same. How would you react if one moment a person asks you your opinion, and then tells you you are wrong? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif If you already "know" so much, don't ask, and save us both this public display of hostility.......
