Browning BPS 10 gauge

I have a chance at picking up a BPS 10 gauge in great condition for $250. Any thoughts on this gun good or bad ? Thought it would make a good calling shotgun. It has a 28 inch barrel and comes with 3 choke tubes.

I had one, at least two friends have one, great guns but not always practical. Modern loads and components have reduced the 10’s original advantage. Heavy enough that recoil is not a major problem. I primarily used nickel plated 4 buck, finding the right load and choke proved expensive for me but the other guys found their sweet spot rather quickly, hope you do the same. I paid $350 for mine, doubt I would go any higher but each to his own

Make a great trap/skeet gun for the mother in law.

Good gun, not a fan of the 10 gauge though. Hard to find shells, close performance to a 12 ga 3.5" magnum and as much or more recoil. I still wouldnt pass it up for $250 though

For $250 I would grab that!
They probably weigh around 11 lbs. loaded, great turkey and waterfowl guns, but I wouldn't want to lug it around all day.
A buddy of mine has one that is his turkey gun, he loves it!

I bought it !! It was the "field 28" model,It's in great condition. 3 choke tubes and the wrench for install.....Also thrown in was 50 rounds all 3 1/2",,, 40 of which were Remington #6 shot, copper plated turkey loads.
My wife's brother has the same gun and he re-loads his own "coyote loads" using lead BB shot. So he advised me to "keep my empty's".

The lead BBB and T shot that BPI sells would make some great 10 ga coyote loads. The lead BBB and T shot gives you more range than lead BB and way more pellets per shell than lead Number 4 buck.

Air gunning with a Ten, I found that 4 buck lead was way more DRT than even nickel plated BB lead.

The pattern was very tight with the finer shot but the killinfavored the 4 buck.

For what it's worth my buddies 3.5 12ga BPS completely fell apart this duck season. He fired and the barrel and magazine came right off the receiver, I havent taken a look at the gun but I guess the magazine tube got pulled right out of the receiver.

I have a 12ga 3" BPS that has been great though. I thought maybe the design really wasnt made for heavy 3.5 shells and came apart? Maybe the 10ga wont have that problem because it's the same 10ga shells it was designed for.

I predict you will like it! I had one a long time ago and it was absolutely deadly. Mine only weighed 9.5 pounds IIRC and it was obnoxious in the recoil department but a turkey killing machine. Now I carry an 870 Youth 20ga. in the turkey woods, makes for a much nicer walk.

Thanks for the reply's .... Im looking to install the full choke tube and trying some different rounds though it to see how it patterns. As far as weight goes, I'm not too concerned. Just going to use it as a "close in" Coyote "blaster" as I don't do any water-fowling.

The deal was too good to pass up. If I decide to sell someday, I don't believe I will loose anything.
