Hello, I am new to this form but have always researched previous questions by reviewing your posts and some great professional opinions are always available, so it was time to make an account. Anyways, I have a Browning BPS 10ga NWTF 24in that I plan to use for coyotes this winter in Kentucky, we can only use shotguns at night. I bought 10 rounds of the Hevishot Dead Coyote #4Buck loads and im wondering what choke size would best fit my needs of dense patterns at 50+ yards? I know I need to pattern test, but with the price of this ammo I cant do that like I would like. I have a improved c. lead/modified steel browning choke, modified lead/full steel, X full Turkey, and XX Full Comp-n-choke. Iv ruled out the turkey chokes bc I think they are obviously to tight, but would the Hevishot act as steel considering it wont distort like lead? Any help with what I should try at first would be greatly appreciated.

I wish there was an easy and accurate answer to that question but I don't think there is. I too have a 10g a. BPS. A friend of mine as two of them and the latest Browning semi-auto, so thats four of them between us. We have all the factory chokes plus three after market high dollar extended chokes. I just spent the morning at the range patterning with both my own and his. Everyone of them is different, like it or not, unless you luckier than me you are going need to pattern everything until you find what clicks. I would suggest you start with the most open you have and go to the tightest, though you could reverse that. Also, you need to take more than one shot for each choke. It still amazes me how you can get a good pattern one time and another time with the same combo get a lousy pattern. Sometimes you can only go for an average

LMAO. Kinda sucks don't it?

In your case, throw a choke in, venture forth and hope for the best. If your LUCKY, it might even shoot where it's pointed. But you won't even know that. Good luck out there.

Parson, I know what you mean, I am a avid turkey hunter and iv had the same experiences with same guns shooting different cohoke/ammo loads better than the other. doggin coyotes yes the price is terrible and personally I would rather take my .223 even short range shots I don't have a bit of trouble (Advantage of hunting in the mountains, we are exposed to short thick shots as well as long shots on old strip mines) However, KDFWR will only allow shotguns at night. Most coyotes iv killed in east Kentucky with a rifle were within 40 yards with the furthest 115, but I did smoke a big bobcat at 280 yesterday

. If I can get it shooting descent at 40, I will be good for most situations I encounter, but you know if I only have a 40 yard gun they will hang up at 60 guaranteed. lol Thanks for the info guys, I will keep you posted what patterns the best for me. Also, how do I insert pictures to the form?

tractorman, I don't see anywhere I can choose attachment, I am not illiterate but I don't have a clue where or if I cant insert anything into the form.

Sorry guys that link did not work. Go to allaboutshooting.com and on the right side there is an article about deep cleaning your barrel. The guy holds records in still target competitions.

Here is the results for
- Browning BPS NWTF 10ga
-Hevishot Dead Coyote #4 Buck
-Browning Full Lead/ Modified Steel
-40 yards
-30in circle

Considering the price of this ammo, I was very disappointed with this pattern, I believe the full still might be to tight and caused the shot to distort, I will be shooting a browning Modifed Lead/Imp. Cyl steel in a few days, I will let you know how it goes. Any Advice or experience with similar loads would be appreciated.

Here is the results for
- Browning BPS NWTF 10ga
-Remington Wingmaster HD #4
-Browning Full Lead/ Modified Steel
-40 yards
-30in circle

This is a little better, which makes me want to safely confirm the full is too tight for the #4 Buck, anyways this is what I am using to coyote hunt this weekend at least until I find the right choke combination for the hevishot.

I would just try whatever lead loads plated or not you can find from BB on up.With 10 gauge payloads you should have no problem getting more than enough hits in the vitals.

I used to have a Remington sp10 and ran 4 buck through a puregold .710 choke with very good results.Different gun but could be a starting point for ya.

I use a pattern master extended range choke tube and federal lead BB shot out of my NWTF browning gold 10. It drops yotes out to 70 yards with a head shot. Just be prepared for a quick follow up shot a distances over 50 yards.
