Browning X-bolt in 7mm-08 vs 30-06

As I was checking out a 25-06, I came across a pretty good deal on a new Browning X in 7mm-08 with a detachable mag. I've never even looked at this option, never mind shooting one, but it felt/cycled very good. In terms of recoil and noise - how does this compare with a 30-06? I don't reload so ammo may be a question. The store rep tells me that it is very mellow to shoot as regards recoil compared to an 06. Looking for a deer gun within 200 yards or so. Perhaps this might even work for moose/elk, but I would likely use my 30-06 A Bolt for these. Price is about double the Marlin bolt and that is quite a bit for the B in Browning. The caliber sounds interesting - regardless of the manufacturer. Thoughts?

7-08 recoil to me is about like a .243, maybe a tad more. Probably the best whiteail caliber made. I shoot a m700 30-06 for deer and my gf shoots a savage 7-08. Recoil isnt anywhere near what a 30-06 is.

Imho I think the 7-08 is highly underestimated.

Can't exactly help you on the 7mm-08 but I do have a X-Bolt in 270 Winchester. Everyone who has shot the rifle comments on how easy the rifle is to shoot. The 7-08 in the Browning would be a very handy deer gun and would easily be capable to 200 yards.

I bought my son an A-Bolt in 7-08. I'm not a big Browning fan but I'll tell ya that this rifle is gorgeous and it shoots like crazy. I am a 7MM fan though and you just can't beat a 7MM-08 for a deer rifle. Fairly mild recoil and superb performance on deer out past 300 yds.

while i do not have those models,i do have a gun in each chamering. both are good guns but the 30-06 is WAY more forgiving should you be off by a hair or if the deer turns as you are squeezing the trigger. the 08,not so much.it all depends on what you feel more comfortable with.

7-08 is as good a deer cartridge as ever devised by man. Sticking it in a Browning bolt gun is doing it a great disservice......

How is it a disservice?
