Browning X-Bolt Long Range

Seems I traded into one of these. Its 308 with a 26inch barrel. Came with a Burris scope too. I took it to the range and was pleasantly surprised on how well it shot. I'm not crazy about the stock but maybe I can find a replacement for it in the future. Of course making a Wannabe He11's Canyon McMillan comes to mind. Anyone else shoot one of these?

Can not speak to that combo but I have an A bolt II boss Cr blued in 25-06 that is a consistent .6” across every single load I have tried in it. My brother bought a spring kit for his original Abolt in 300 Win Mag and gave me the lighter of the two springs since I am more the coyote shooter while he is head over heals into elk. I have not shot the rifle since installing the new spring but it ought to shave a bit more off the groups. Also I think ther is a more sweet spot out there for it.

I traded a Ruger tang 270 win that never shot better than 1.250” so this Browning of mine is a step in the right direction!

Can a person buy stocks from Browning? I'd like a Micky but not sure I can swing that. Boyd's offer a few but was wanting a thumbhole or something like the Game Scout. Boyd's doesn't offer a T-hole for the Browning.

Good Morning, psycodaog,

Browning has always been synonymous with quality. Some hunters have opined that Miroku rifles are equal (some say better) than FN models. I can't offer an opinion because I don't know. Japan does make very good steel.

The .308 Win is almost mythical. It works far better than it should. Many years ago, it surpassed the '06 is sales, probably due to semis chambered for it. The reality is it'll duplicate '06 loads which translates to filled big game tags. It's extremely accurate.

If I were to run across a .308 Win carbine, I could sell my big game rifles. I wouldn't, but I could.

A single shot with a 20" barrel would work, too. Heavy rifles at altitude = bad attitude. Light rifles = happy hunters.

Bottom line: congratulation, you are the proud owner of an excellent rifle.

Thanks EMP3, it does seem like a very nice rifle. It's very accurate also. Just from loads I threw together one would have thought a bunch of load work up was involved but it wasn't. I'm excited to see what it does when I get time to do actual load work. So far the only negative is I really don't care for the Dura-touch stock. Its fine now but I hear they get really sticky with age.

Got one in 7mag. [beeep]'s Canyon speed. Hammers accuracy will very little workup and handles well. Have a bunch of abolts I love but the xbolt is taking over my favorite spot. Never knre that about the duratouch stocks though

I think the He11's Canyon probably has a different stock. Mines kinda rubbery feeling.Boyd's offer a few stocks but none that I like, no thumbhole's for the X-Bolt. Then there's McMillan. $$$

Hi psychodog,

I hope your new rifle brings many years of successful hunts to you.

Some 25 years ago, I bought a limited run W-W stainless & walnut Featherweight chambered for .308 Win. I bought it for backpack hunting Wyoming's Star Valley. With factory ammo, it'll shoot under MOA. I've never hand loaded for it. Factory ammo works very well & it kills muleys in their tracks. BTW, every .308 Win factory load I've chrono'd has exceeded factory ballistics. The .308 Win is amazing. It works far better than many would tend to expect from the '06's little brother.

I haven't used it in years. I'm considering selling it. My only hesitation is how accurate the .308 Win cartridge is.

I'm old school. I'm all blued steel and wood. Hence, as to your stock, I have no clue. Maybe Ebay might work. Hunters shedding wood for synthetic stocks would probably try to sell them. Gun shows might be another source.

I wish you the absolute best.

I've had my Dura touch stock for ten years now and no sign of it getting sticky yet.
They do tell not to get any cleaning solvents on it so I'm try not to get anything on it other than rain or snow.

Good to know. Maybe those complaining were messy cleaning it. I keep my stocks covered when cleaning and use guide rods too.

Those are beautiful rifles, what no picture? Wish I could fall into one of those. Dying to hear how it shoots.

I have a Browning X-Bolt 300 WSM that I have had for several years. It is a shooter for sure. I don't reload but shooting premium factory ammo from a lead sled, the groups are great and with cheaper ammo the groups are about an inch. I love that gun.

My X-Bolt 308 isn't finicky about what it shoots. Kinda surprised me with that. But the trigger needs some help for sure. I'm going to order a spring kit for it in a few days and see if that will help the pull weight a little.

You've got two crucial factors working in your favor: you're shooting a Browning, and it's chambered for .308 Win, one of our most inherently accurate cartridges.

I can shoot any factory ammo outta my skinny barreled Featherweight .308 Win and expect sub-MOA.

The .308 Win has to rank among our greatest cartridges. This is not a biased opinion. My favorite big game cartridge is the .280 Rem. Nope. I don't own one. My favorite big game cartridge that I do own is the .270 Win.

I ordered a spring kit for the X-Bolt today. Its supposed to drop the trigger pull weight by close to 50%. A company called M-Carbo sells them. Veteran owned!! 100% lifetime warranty.

Man there's no communication problems with M-Carbo. I ordered the spring kit yesterday and got no less than 4 emails thanking me for my order along with a confirmation email. Then inviting me to their web site forums, then a couple more today with a tracking number and another thank you. They offer same day shipping and I guess they meant it. I haven't browsed their site but they have quite a bit of stuff there. Sure hope the spring kit works as good as their videos show it does.

I put that Mcarbo spring in my .223 xbolt. It is a great feeling trigger now! Like it a lot and suspect you will also.

Mine is the regular black dura touch stock. I like it also.......only time will tell on a few bad reports on it. But.....have you ever looked at reviews on ANYthing? One guys treasure is another guys trouble.
