I have a BSA Contender 8-32X50 that was my favorite scope for over 7 years. I zeroed it once and it shot 1/4 MOA groups for many years. Unfortunately this year the reticule came loose and was spinning inside. Since it was way past warranty time, I decided to fix it myself but upon inspection I found that one of the reticules (vertical) had come loose at one end. I tried to repair it but with no luck. I have since replaced that scope with another identical model but have the original here just needing a part. I would like to have a new reticule shipped to me so I can use this ever dependable scope yet again on another rifle. Is this possible? I am a qualified gunsmith and feel very comfortable doing the repair myself. Thank you for your time.

Hello,

Scopes are not to be taken a part. That voids the warranty, and we do not ship out parts. Scopes are also filled with a gas to prevent fogging. Which also helps with the water resistance.
Your scope was under a Limited Lifetime warranty, we would have fixed or replaced it for you.

Thank you

So you are telling me that I now own a 14" long scope shaped paperweight? Well if it didn't break in the first place I wouldn't have been in this predicament. I guess you will never have to worry about me buying another BSA scope will you. I have told hundreds of people about your exceptionally nice scopes for the money, and I know of at least a half dozen that I have sold for you. Now, lets see how many I can not sell for you. I have many friends in various online communities that will love to get a copy of this email, and im sure the lack of customer service will reflect in there buying potential.

Thank you for your 2 week old reply, im glad I wasnt in a hurry. I sure wont be in a hurry to go out and buy any other BSA products. As far as the other 4 scopes go, the laser, the binoculars, and the boresighter that I own that shed the BSA name, all of them have just ended up in the garbage. Ive stripped every last BSA product that I have from my guns, gunsmithing cabinet, and range box. I will now replace it with a product manufactured by one of your competitors, and I will be smiling while doing it.

All of this because your customer service sucks. I tried to call your company but the card that I had kept had the wrong number on it. I emailed BSA on three different occasions (not counting this time) and not a single reply.

Anyway, thanks for nothing,

Sorely dissappointed ex-customer

All for a $2 part, [beeep]?

This was copied and pasted, the only modification was taking my email adress out. Sorry so long, but I thought you should know what kind of customer service this company has to offer (or not)

I hate BSA, bought a scope from the sportsmansguide back when I was a beginner for $139.00 + shipping... same scope now sales for 39-49 dollars, talk about feelin like a jackass. This was 10 years ago but BSA still makes me sick and I'm not real fond of sportsmansguide either.

You get what you pay for and that includes customer service.Apparently though the scope was still under some kind of warranty, the must have changed there policy if you thought the warranty was expired.

With the general quality of BSA scopes, why would anyone expect good cusotmer service?

The scopes are junk, so it follows that the customer service isn't going to be top flight either - at least in my mind.

As has been said before, with optics, you generally get what you pay for.

Just my opinion. - BCB

Navey Gunner you are lucky to have had one that lasted that long. I had the same scope that kept changing o. A friend did me a favor and droped the rifle and bent the scope and I got a Leaupold and have never looked at another BSA and never will.

Never had one that would hold Zero. Bought a BSA red dot and shattered it from the percussion of my 45 colt. never could get anyone to answer or return my calls.

I have had the displeasure of owning two BSA scopes myself, and both were complete junk. I too will never buy another BSA scope ever. Thanks for sharing your customer service experience with us. I agree with what Bayou City Boy had to say about their poor customer service being directly related to the inferior products they offer. Unfortunately, I am not suprised that BSA conducts buisness in this manner.
They're name has become synonymous with garbage in the shooting optics industry. Good luck with the brand you choose to replace them with. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

moral of story: know your waranty no matter what company and contact scope company before taking scope apart /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif good and bad optics both start out filled with gas that YOU cannot replace /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif. i got a real /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif out of the story myself. a person should really spend more money for good quality optics instead of expecting poor quality optics to perform since they are a cheap price for a reason /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif i'm still /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif thanks for the story /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

baldie,
You are correct it is BSA originally in England, however over the years they have sold the name several times. The company that makes the scopes just rents the name from Birmingham Small Arms.

The shame in it is that the scope was actually (maybe the one out of a million) that was a really good scope. I had it on my gun for over 7 years before the crosshairs went crooked on me. It not once ever lost its zero, and I consistantly shot 1/2 MOA groups with it. It was a 8-32X50, and I had to laugh at billyd's reply "barely see anything" cause that is about what you had at 32power. A big blur. But up to 24 or so it was exceptionally nice.

No matter what I will never buy another BSA ANYTHING. I will be in the market for some new high power scopes real soon (as soon as I can talk the wife into it, may be hard pressed after the new snow camo and the FX3, and taxidermy bill, and new gun, and...........)
