BSA scopes.

Ryan - I have one. It is the contender 8-32. It does not focus like I think it should. The 32 power is somewhat fuzzy. The parralax adjustment does not focus at the corresponding yardages ie it focusse at 100 yrds with the bell saying 25 yards.

Now in all fairness I have to tell you that I got this scope from my cousin. He had it on a 22-250 and it worked well. Not a Nikon or such but it did ok. He had a custom 6.5 X 284 built and he put the scope on it while he was waiting on his reworked Sightron to come back. That is when the parralax got messed up. It used ot work fine when it was on the 22-250 but failed from recoil of the 6.5 X 284. I have it on a 22-250 for load developement. It still holds zero but I will replace it. This scope is still under warranty and I might send it back and get it fixed.

I could let you have it for a set of .223 dies

lol....

If I were looking for a cheap scope I would go with a Japanese model Tasco in 3 x 9 in the World Class department. I have 2 and they have been good scopes. They still aren't high end glass but they work for what I do. There has also been some talk about a Tasco 6-20 Varmint/Tactical and some have said it works really good.......James L

Of all the scopes discussed on this Forum, BSA has the most negative comments.

It's a shame to take an old time name like BSA (Birmingham Small Arms) and put it on a cheap product.

Guys, I have a few Tasco scopes, and a BSA, I have had good luck with the BSA. It is on a .243, I have not had the best luck with the Tascos, they are fuzzy, and I have had them fail on my .308win., I am slowly cutting my losses, trading off the cheaper scopes for Leupolds. YOU ARE BETTER OFF TO DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! I have missed and wounded deer and other game because of scope failure. It is not worth it, is it?

The good ones don't always get away....

I have only had one Tasco scope fail on me and that one was on a 300 win mag at around 2000 rounds. It was my fault . I overtightened the cap on the windage adjustment tower and litterally unscrewed it one day. LESSON LEARNED lol

The scope that is on my .223 is now on its' 5 th gun. And it was bought used lol. The one on my .243 is original bought new and is on its' second gun. The first gun it was on was a 7mm rem mag Sendero. Shot somewhere around 2300 rounds with it. Now I have about 500 rounds through the 243 as of now. The BSA that I have was probably wrecked by putting it on that 6.5mm. I just don't think that they will hold up to heavy recoil. As long as it was on the 22-250 it did fine.

I know that leupold is a fine scope and I do like them. But.... If you go with a Sightron you get the same glass(ground by Asia Optical) as you get in the Leupold. If you buy it from a dealer you get an over the counter warranty. That means if it breaks you take it back to the dealer and they hand you a new scope. No sending it back to the factory for them to take 6-8 weeks(months) to fix it and send it back.

My cousin has one and I will be buying a Sightron for my next scope.>>>>>>James L.

BTW don't even mention a vari X II. Been there and done that!!!! Couldn't get the dern thing to track correct.

Ryan, I have to agree with James on this one. I bought one for my 223 and am really disappointed with it. It's hard to focus on anythin over about 12 power. It works great for the range where you have the time to mess with it but for hunting apps,

I'm only leaving it on there until I find a good one for varmint hunting. Any suggestions anybody?!?!? Jim

I was just checking out the BSA line yesterday to put it short JUNK very fuzzy! If you want a "cheap" scope go with a tasco.

BSA scopes--in a word- JUNK!! A 3-9x40 on a 223 turned into junk in a matter of a couple hundred rounds. A Lighted-Reticle model(my son's) turned the crosshairs at a 45 degree angle, that'll ruin your day!!!! No longer crosshairs, but now X-hairs.
I have a Tasco 3-9x32 that has been on my Rem 700 .30-06 since 1982, and I have had only 1 small problem with it, the rear external lens loosened up, so I sent it back in for repair. Other than that, it does a great job.
A Tasco scope is not a Cadillac, but for the money, I think they are the best low-end scope you can get. If you're looking for a good scope at a reasonable price, check out the new Redfield line. I have a 4-16x44 AO Tracker that I am very impressed with. The price last year was about $230 plus tax, so it came home with me.

i had a "deerhunter" or some darned thing on on my 10/22. it was a fixed 4x. worked well once i got it sighted in. the only bad thing i could find, and the reason i replaced it, was that it covered too much of the target, and that was at 35 yards. put on the tasco varmint scope and cannot complain so far...

I have a BSA Catseye 3.5 -10 x 50 on a Remington 700 ADL synthetic and it has not let me down yet. It is very clear and has held a zero for 2 years. The only thing I found was it does get alot of back glare from the eye piece. I solved this with a rubber extension slipped on to the eye piece. All in all this has been a good scope and is great in low light.

I had a BSA "Contender" 3-12x50 on my 30/06 for a year, then had to get it the heck off there. Eye relief was about 1 inch, and there was NO "play" in the eye-distance.. I mean, I had to get my eye EXACTLY the right distance from the ocular lens to get a full sight picture. Also very coarse reticle. Not very clear (not as clear as my Tascos or Simmons... and that's saying something)

I still have it laying around, but I'm not in a hurry to put it back on anything....
