Even at 4-500 yards. I can consistently hit an 8" plate at 500 with 9X optics. Thats dang good but can you hit a tennis ball (Richardson ground squirrel size) the same way ? And a standing p-dog avg adult is 8 inches tall and 4 inches wide simular to a bowling ball pin, the young are MUCH smaller. Was your plate 8x8 or 8x4 ??? pahntr760 do you ever make it to Eastern Idaho ? And by the way i only have one crap 4-16,,, I have two crap 6-24s two crap 8.5-25 one crap 10-40 and one crap 12-50 ... And in all my years i had only one crap scope fail and thats when i learned a quick detach sling can quick detach when your not expecting it to detach !
I shoot Belding ground squirrels with a 3-9 and 3.5-10 consistently around the 400 yard mark. ( and they are slightly smaller than a Richardson ground squirrel
) Good for you,,, guess my eyes just suck ! Because there is no way i could do that with a 9 at 400 yards even with the best glass.
Yep your eyes sucketh then. That could very well be,,,, i burnt my eye looking at a eclipse with out protection at about 10 years old and actually a few years back i had to ask my buddy if i had a broken /damaged vertical cross hair they all started having very slight jog to the right at the intersection point i actually had to switch to 100% scopes at 10 or eleven years old....
Well thats not good, given that I can see why you need a higher power. Looks of guys I know shoot way out at small critters with 9 power scopes and sometimes its not turned all the way up.
